Additional Features

The Atlona AT-OME-PS42 is a highly versatile, powerful 6×2 matrix presentation switcher with USB-C, HDBaseT, and HDMI video inputs, and HDMI and HDBaseT outputs. The OME-PS62 is part of the Omega™ Series of integration products for modern AV communications and collaboration.

USB interfacing and extension

The OME-PS62 features a USB hub for host PCs and peripherals, which can also incorporate remote USB devices over HDBaseT. The USB-C port for AV input can also connect into the hub.

Local and remote AV connectivity

In addition to HDMI and USB-C inputs, the OME-PS62 accepts remote AV sources over HDBaseT. HDMI and HDBaseT outputs enable serving to local and remote display locations.

Hands-free, automated system operation

Simply connect a laptop, and the OME-PS62 responds by switching to the appropriate input and powering up the display. (Auto-switching is available when the outputs are mirrored.)

4K/60 compatibility and scaling

The OME-PS62 supports 4K/60 4:2:0 over the HDBaseT output, and full 4K/60 4:4:4 over local USB-C and HDMI ports. 4K up / downscaling is available through the HDMI output.

The Atlona AT-OME-PS62 is a 6×2 matrix presentation switcher with USB-C, HDBaseT, and HDMI inputs, plus HDMI and HDBaseT outputs. Part of the Omega™ Series of integration products for modern AV communications and collaboration, the OME-PS62 features HDBaseT extension for video up to 4K/60 4:2:0, plus embedded audio, control, Ethernet, and USB over distances up to 330 feet (100 meters). The HDMI and USB-C inputs support video up to UHD/60 4:4:4. The OME-PS62 is HDCP 2.2 compliant and features 4K/60 4:4:4 upscaling and downscaling for the HDMI output. Integrated USB extension addresses the challenge of connecting between USB devices at remote locations, and is ideal for software video conferencing and touch or interactive displays. The OME-PS62 includes USB 3.0 and USB-C interfaces for three host PCs, plus two peripheral devices such as a camera, microphone, speakerphone, or keyboard and mouse. This versatile matrix presentation switcher is ideal for a wide range of 4K presentation applications with Omega Series transmitters and receivers.

USB Extension for Video Conferencing with Zoom, Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, and More

The OME-PS62 features integrated USB extension over HDBaseT up to 330 feet (100 meters). This capability, plus interfacing for host PCs and USB peripherals makes the OME-PS62 ideal for video conferencing and UC (unified communications) platforms such as Zoom, Skype ® for Business, Microsoft ® Teams ® , Cisco ® Webex ® , and GoToMeeting ® . Available from Atlona is the AT-HDVS-CAM PTZ camera with USB interface.

Presentation Matrix Switcher, Scaler, Extender, and Audio Processor

The OME-PS62 combines the benefits of 4K/UHD scaling, auto-switching, integrated display control, microphone input with mixing and ducking, USB extension, and more. It incorporates many popular integration convenience features, while delivering excellent performance and value for 4K presentation and video conferencing applications. The USB-C input is ideal for AV interfacing with newer laptops and mobile devices, plus powering and data connectivity (to the local USB hub and over HDBaseT). The OME-PS62 can remotely power Atlona devices over HDBaseT. For additional integration convenience, the OME-PS62 features audio embedding and de-embedding, audio output matrix mixing, internal video test patterns for setup and troubleshooting, and remote management with Velocity Device Manager .

Automatic Display Control

The OME-PS62 can provide control to a display through TCP/IP, RS-232, or CEC*, without the need for a separate control system. This simplifies system design and integration while reducing costs. With automatic display control, the OME-PS62 can trigger a display to power on automatically whenever a laptop or other device is connected to the OME-PS62. At the end of the presentation, when the presenter disconnects the laptop, the OME-PS62 forces the display to power off. Ease of presenter interaction with the system, and the savings incurred by automatic display shutdown provide a significant return on investment. The OME-PS62 display control capability can also be triggered by an external control system.

* Consumer Electronics Control (CEC): Atlona does not guarantee the function of CEC with all televisions. We can confirm proper operation with many current Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, and LG TVs. Many manufacturers do not support the CEC “off” command when sent from a source and older TVs use proprietary commands. Atlona only supports those TVs that follow CEC command structure from HDMI 1.2a and support the “off” command when issued by a source. We encourage any dealer to get evaluation product from Atlona prior to designing a system around this control technology or be prepared to use other methods to control their displays if Atlona CEC is not compatible with the installed displays.

Reliable Auto-Switching

When the HDMI and HDBaseT outputs are mirrored, the OME-PS62 can automatically select an input source based on detection of the 5 volt hot plug detect (HPD) signal, as well as active video. This ensures reliable auto-switching operation for all video sources, including DVRs, DisplayPort / Mini DisplayPort adapters, and other devices that always maintain the HPD line at the 5 volt “high” state but may not be delivering active video.

Applications

• Meeting rooms and conference rooms – The OME-PS62 can serve as an AV integration centerpiece in a credenza for sources in the rack, plus remote AV and USB data connectivity from wall, table, and display locations.
• Video conferencing – With compatible Omega Series endpoints, this presentation switcher provides interfacing for local and remote USB devices for video conferencing, with AV and USB switched together between host PCs.
• Auditoriums and lecture halls – The HDBaseT output of the OME-PS62 can be used to extend video to a projector, while the HDMI output serves a confidence monitor. Also available is a mic input and mixing with program audio.
• Active learning classrooms – In education applications, the OME-PS62 can be installed below each student table, with the HDMI output feeding a local display, and the HDBaseT output used to send content to the main classroom AV switcher and display.
• Lecture capture – The secondary, HDMI output can also be used to feed into a lecture capture or streaming video system, with video scaled as appropriate for the application.

Why we need a Software Presentation Switcher

Auto Presentation Switcher (APS) automates the task of switching presentations. When my brother first saw the introduction-video he was not so impressed: He thought it is easy to switch presentations on a computer, he could do it in less than a minute. Why not do it manually? Of course, he is right, when I’m sitting in my home and looking over presentations, the seconds I save with the shortcuts using APS are not that important. But what my brother failed to understand, is that there are situations where switching presentations manually is simply not good enough. Consider the workflow of an AV-technician in a standard corporate event where several speakers go on the stage or studio with their own presentation. The job could then be to control the microphones and make sure that the correct presentation is displayed. While the speaker is holding a presentation the job is not too hard (given that everything is set up properly and nothing unexpected happens.) The main challenge arises in the transitions between the speakers, when suddenly a lot of things are happening at the same time. In the graph below I have tried to give an example of how the workflow can look at a typical conference.

The right of the graph shows the transition between speakers. Here the AV-technician can be very busy, especially when switching presentations manually as in the example above. The dark-green color represents the time and effort needed to switch presentations. It should be obvious to everyone including my brother that this curve should be flattened to lower the workload and reduce the risk of something going wrong. By simplifying the task of switching presentations on the projector, you no longer need to search for the next file in folder while making sure that the host is heard properly as he introduces the next speaker.

Other ways of switching presentations

We are not the first company to create solutions that simplify presentation-switching. “Presentation Switcher” is already an established term for hardware-boxes that can switch between computers with loaded presentations.

On the software-side a common solution has been to merge different presentations in to one larger file. For example, if you only have Powerpoints you can use the Reuse Slide method. SlideDog has taken this approach further by making it possible to merge files of different types that can be combined in a larger presentation.

What new does APS bring to the table?

Although APS has similarities to the software-methods mentioned above,  there is one important difference: APS is the first software-based presentation-switcher that works directly with the original source-formatting of the presentation-files. When you edit and present Keynote and Powerpoint-files on the presentation-computer, you are always working in Powerpoint or Keynote. No extra loading, rendering or conversion is needed before the presentation is dispayed when using APS. This approach gives you a lot of flexibility:

• When not using the shortcuts you can work exactly the way you are used to. APS runs in the background of your computer and is only activated if shortcuts are pushed.
• Its easier to make fast changes to the presentations right until the start. This is because smaller files makes them more flexible and faster to work with compared to rendering them all together in a larger file.
• Easier troubleshooting in case of technical problems. APS is only responsible for the switching. If you get a technical issue when not using APS shortcuts, its highly unlikely that APS will be the cause. The general performance of your computer running presentations will not be affected by running APS.
• Easy and intuitive show-preparation that can be done on computers where APS is not installed. You just need to sort the presentations numerically in a folder that can be transferred to the presentation-computer.
• Mac and PC compatibility. The same folder can be used on both platforms.
