“ Happiness does not depend on what we have; it depends on how we feel towards what we have. We can be happy with little and miserable with much.” ~ William D. Hoard

Fighting with our friends is a now and then activity. But what is even more common? Having arguments with our parents. I am going to tell you about an episode that happened in my life when I was in the 10th standard. I used to go to my tuition classes from 5 pm to 7 pm every Monday to Friday. One evening, when I was walking down the stairs of the tuition centre, my friends and I decided to stop and eat ice cream. I knew my taste buds were about to be delighted!

After finishing my ice cream, I bid farewell to my friends, took an auto and reached home. I could see my mother standing at the gate and my father about to start the car. My mother’s eyes were watery. But I could sense that she breathed a sigh of relief the moment she saw me. As soon as I entered the drawing-room, my mother and my father walked in behind me. They were now looking at me angrily.

They started shouting at me. They asked me why I was late and why I hadn’t informed them. My parents said that they were extremely worried about me. My mother told me that she couldn’t stop thinking that something terrible had happened to me. My father reminded me that in a city like Delhi, where the crime rate is so high, I ought to be more careful and responsible. I felt irritated and agitated by their sudden outburst.

I still remember the exact words that I uttered out of my mouth, “When did eating an ice cream become such a big crime? Why do you have to overreact all the time? I wish I didn’t have parents; maybe then I would’ve been entitled to some freedom. It is impossible to live with you.” My parents turned silent, and I went stomping into my room.

The next day my father told us to get into the car, but he didn’t disclose where we were going. Everyone remained silent for the whole trip. In about 25 minutes, the car came to a halt in front of an orphanage. I did not know what my father had in mind. We all made our way into the orphanage, and my father told me to interact with the kids there.

All the kids at the orphanage were very welcoming and warm. None of them had any parents. A lot of them told me their stories. Reshma, a girl of 10, said to me that her mother died while giving birth to her and she never saw her dad. She was brought here when she was just a baby.

An orphanage is not the most amusing place. The rooms there were small and cramped. They did not have an air conditioner or even a cooler. None of them had been to a restaurant or an amusement park. They rarely got a cake or chocolates to eat. None of the toys that they had was in good condition. Sneha, another girl at the orphanage, told me that there were many nights when she felt lonely.

She told me, “Not one day has passed when I haven’t missed my parents. I would give anything in the world to be with them for just one day.” I realized that the things we take for granted, they dream of them. I walked out towards the main gate and saw my parents talking to the caretaker. I had never been happier to see them. That day I learnt the value of having parents, the importance of having a family.

I ran towards my mother, hugged her and burst into tears. That day was the best and indeed the happiest of my life. I realized that my parents would always be there for me. They would stand beside me through thick and thin. Having parents is not simply normal; it is a blessing which not everyone gets. I apologised to my parents for the previous night’s behaviour and thanked my father for teaching me this lesson.

My father told me something in my ear, and I quickly ran towards the car. I opened the trunk and retrieved a big box of chocolates and candies. My mother also came to help me with the other package which had crayons and colouring books in it. I distributed these things among the children at the orphanage with my own hands. I can’t possibly describe how happy and delighted they were.

We spread out our mats and opened up the food hamper. The lively music and delicious food swept away all the tension of the past few days. The idealic atmosphere was abruptly broken by some loud cries. The sound came from the canal side. I immediately rushed towards the canal and was shocked to see a boy drowning. He was crying for help.

I jumped into the canal and swam towards the drowning boy. After a great struggle, I dragged him towards the bank. He was in a very bad state. When I observed him carefully, I was surprised to see that he was an old classmate of mine. He was given medical aid and after some time, he regained consciousness. I was delighted to see him recovering. My joy knew no bounds because I had saved the life of a boy, who happened to be my old classmate.

It was a day of great joy and happiness. Not only did I secure the second position, but also did a brave and noble act by saving a boy from the jaws of death. This day would go down as one of the happiest days of my life.

Essay on Happiest Day in My Life – 300 Words

Such happiest days in one’s life are quite a few and rare. They come once in a blue moon. They do not visit us every day. If someday is `happiest’ for someone, it may be ‘saddest’ for somebody else. All days are not equal. Some may be quite cheerful. Others may be sorrowful. Life is visited by weals and woes by turn. If you are sad today, you may be pretty glad the next day. Someone wins a lottery on a particular day. That day becomes for him the happiest day of his life. One gets plucked in the examination; he calls this day as the most miserable. But in my life, the happiest day is 17th September. I was born on this day. It was on Saturday. People take pride in their birthdays. They attach special importance to such days when they saw the light of the day. So for me, my birthday is a significant day. Relatives and friends come to me. They share my happiness. They partake cake, sweets and dinner. Choicest dishes are prepared. The house is decorated, electric bulbs and tubes are lighted. Canopy is hung. Mats, carpets and rugs are spread out. The cake is ordered. It is brought and cut. All wish me a happy birthday. They cheer me, they sing songs, they dance. The whole atmosphere pervades with joy. I become the hero of the day. Eat and drink goes on long in the night. Gifts and presents are heaped on me. I feel excessively jubilant and gay. I celebrate this day with great pomp and show. I wait for this day for days together. Every year this date reminds me that I am older by one year. It is a day of reckoning (thinking) for me. I assess my success and failure. I take account of my failings. I resolve to be just and considerate. I vow to be sincere to my friends, relatives and my country. It is a day of great rejoicings and merry-makings for me and for my family. Every year this day is the happiest day of my life. My happiness is unbounded. It is limitless. It has its own charms and attractions. Hove this day very much; but sorry it comes once in a year.

The Happiest Day Of My Life Essay In English [ 300 – 500 – 800 words]

When our kids start writing essays, they start with some basic ones. Like “What is your favorite destination to visit,” “ Your favourite hobby ,” “ Your favorite festival ,” and many others. But today, we are going to give some examples of writing an essay on the happiest day of my life.

Let’s see how it can be done.

Essay on the happiest day of my life (300 words).

How would you feel if you had planned a trip for 2 months and you could not go on the trip? You would feel bad right? I am feeling it right now. It was I who planned the trip and made the itinerary. Every time we planned this, it got canceled but not this time.

Essay on the happiest day of my life

The trip was happening after a long time. It was two years ago when the last trip happened. So we decided to make this trip happen. And it was actually happening this time until the date for my NET exam got disclosed. There was no point holding them back just for me, so I asked them to go for the trip and bring me something nice.

It was right in the middle of the trip, and there was no way I was going to miss the exam. So with a heavy heart, I bid them goodbye as they set out for the trip. While they were having fun on the beach, I was preparing for my exams.

They were putting up Instagram stories, and I was sitting in my room with my face buried in books. And then came the big day. The day of my exam and it went smoothly. After coming back from the examination, I was feeling very low as I was all alone, and they were having fun.

That is when the magic happened. I got the mail from the airline’s company that my ticket was confirmed for Bangkok, and it was just in two days. At first, I was confused then I got the call from my uncle. He arranged this trip for me and my cousins.

Well, I couldn’t be happier. A trip to Bangkok, and that to all expenses paid. Can you believe it? Even I couldn’t, but that has to be the happiest day of my life. And just to let you all know, I passed the test as well.

Essay on the happiest day of my life (500 words)

I was always told that everything had been planned for before our birth. We cannot cheat destiny. And by this time, I had started believing that nothing good was in store for me and my family. We have to go back a few years to get a clear picture.

Essay on the happiest day of my life (500 words)

It was the summer before our graduation. My twin brother and I went for a picnic with our family. It was a bright day, and suddenly while we were returning, it started raining. My father was driving the car, and it was raining so heavily that we couldn’t even see anything that was in front of us.

So, we decided to stop and wait until the rain stopped or at least reduced. But unfortunately, we didn’t get the chance, and a car came in front to save us; my father turned left, and somehow the car door opened, and my brother fell from the vehicle.

Though we immediately took him to the hospital, he had lost a lot of blood and was in terrible shape. They took him to the operation theatre, and we were hoping for good news, but we got the worst ever news possible; he had gone into a coma. It has been five years since then.

We celebrated his birthday with him in the hospital every year, visited him every day, and prayed for his recovery, but nothing worked. Nothing has been the same ever since. And last week, the doctors called us in and informed us that there had been no improvement in his condition for years and that it was we let go of him and got him off life support.

It broke my family even more than it was. I couldn’t even look at my father. He was punishing himself for this, and we couldn’t control him. But there was no other option left, and we put ourselves together for it and went to the hospital that morning.

When I was near his cabin, I heard a familiar voice I hadn’t heard in years. It was my brother’s. He was up. He came out of the coma that morning, and the doctors didn’t inform us so we could cherish the moment.

I couldn’t contain myself and hugged him right away. My father kneeled on the ground and started crying. And the happiness in my mother’s eyes cant be described in words. They kept him there for two more days, and then we took him home.

He was so happy to be home again but upset as well, as he had lost five years of his life. We had a party and celebrated all five of his birthdays again. My family was finally whole again. So if I am asked about the happiest day of my life , I don’t think I would take a split second to feel what it is. It would be the day I got back my brother.

Essay on The Happiest Day of my life (700 words)

It was a beautiful winter morning, the sun was shining, and there was a gentle breeze in the air. I woke up with a smile on my face, knowing that today was going to be a special day. I quickly got dressed and made my way to the annual literary festival that was being held in my city. As an avid reader and a fan of literature, I had been looking forward to this event for months. But little did I know that this would turn out to be the happiest day of my life.

As I entered the festival grounds, I was surrounded by the hustle and bustle of fellow book lovers. There were rows of book stalls, book readings, and panel discussions taking place. I could feel the energy and excitement in the air, and my heart was filled with joy. I quickly made my way to the main stage, where my favorite author, John Green, was scheduled to speak.

I had been a huge fan of John Green’s work since I first read his book “The Fault in Our Stars.” His writing had a profound impact on me, and I had been eagerly waiting for the opportunity to meet him in person. As I took my seat in the audience, I couldn’t believe that I was finally going to see him in real life.

John Green took the stage, and the entire audience erupted in cheers and applause. He started his talk by sharing his journey as a writer and the inspiration behind his books. He spoke about the power of storytelling and how it can shape our lives. I was hanging on to every word he said, and I could feel my admiration for him growing even more.

After his talk, there was a Q&A session, and I eagerly raised my hand to ask a question. To my surprise, John Green called on me, and I couldn’t believe my luck. I asked him about his writing process and how he deals with writer’s block. He answered my question with honesty and humor, and I could see the passion and dedication he had for his craft.

As the session came to an end, I couldn’t resist the urge to meet John Green in person. I quickly made my way to the author’s signing booth, where a long line of fans had already formed. I patiently waited for my turn, and as I got closer to the front, my excitement turned into nervousness. What would I say to him? Would I be able to articulate how much his writing meant to me?

Finally, it was my turn, and I approached John Green with a mixture of nervousness and excitement. He greeted me with a warm smile, and I couldn’t believe that I was standing in front of my favorite author. I quickly blurted out how much his books had impacted my life and how he was my favorite writer. To my surprise, he replied by saying that it meant a lot to him to hear that from a young reader like me. He then asked me about the genres I enjoyed reading and even recommended some books for me to check out.

As I walked away from the signing booth, I couldn’t stop smiling. Meeting John Green was everything I had hoped for and more. I felt like my love for literature had been validated, and I was filled with a sense of inspiration and motivation. My heart was overflowing with happiness, and I couldn’t wait to tell my family and friends about my encounter with John Green.

That day, I left the literary festival with a signed copy of my favorite book, an amazing experience, and a memory that would stay with me forever. Meeting John Green was not just a dream come true, but it was also a reminder of the power of literature to bring people together and shape our lives in ways we never thought possible. It was truly the happiest day of my life.

Essay on the happiest day of my life (800 words)

Who do you love the most? Your child? Your parents? Or your grandparents? Some would give a very diplomatic answer but not me. I am pretty clear about the fact that I have loved one person unconditionally throughout my whole, and that person is no other than my grandma.

I never knew love like this until I grew up. But by the time I understood that I had lost her. She suffered from a long illness, and in the end, she got paralyzed and was unable to speak. It was so painful to watch, I can’t even imagine the pain she felt inside.

Essay on the happiest day of my life (800 words)

She was such a beautiful human being. She taught me to be empathetic, kind, and helpful. She used to tell me stories about how she helped people in need and how that quality was diminishing day by day.

I love to bake, and it was that lady who taught me that. I have a lot of memories of baking cookies with her, and she scolded me for eating the dough. She taught me how to ride the cycle and helped me with homework. And also saved me from homework when my mother used to scold me.

She made me my favorite treats and used to sit by my side when I was sick. Whenever she heard anybody scolding me, she came to my rescue. But if I made any mistake, she used to tell me about that as well, but in a way that would make me realize that I did something bad, and I never used to do that again.

Well, there are no words to describe her love for me. It was hidden in those small gestures. A grandparent’s love can never be compared to anything else in this world. At least I can. If I start counting memories, then I will lose track of time and end up writing an essay for two thousand words.

The person who taught me the meaning of life , love, and everything in between left me in the prime of my life. A death that changed my life and my perspectives in many ways. I stopped doing a lot of things that I used to love and started doing a lot of things that meant a lot to her.

She was an animal lover, but I used to be so scared of all kinds of animals. She wanted to keep a dog in our house, but because of my fears, she never did. So after her death, I got a husky and a German Shepherd in our house. But I don’t bake anymore.

So after her death, I wanted to do something for her. Remembering her, the kindness in her heart, and her love for strangers, I wanted to build a home for old age people and orphans together. A place where they will get the company of one another.

People who are alone and don’t have anybody to take care of them would stay here, and children who are orphans and have nowhere else to be would stay here. The kids would get guidance and knowledge from the elderly people, and the elderly people would get the company of the small ones and get themselves occupied.

This would be a kind of community where people who have no one can be there for each other. I started working at the age of eighteen and started to save money for this wish to come true. I didn’t want my parents to help me out with this. And it began to feel real when I was twenty-four.

I started building it when I was twenty-four and finished it when I was twenty-six. The day I opened the home for those people was a very emotional day for me. Seeing those people all alone, with nobody to take care of them, made me very emotional. But I was glad they had me, and from now on, I would be there for them, to look after them, to take care of them.

Well, the day this actually happened would definitely have to be the happiest day of my life. Making my one dream come true and too for my grandmother was the ultimate happy moment for me. Now the home is ten years old, and there are many people here now. I started my family with five members, and now I have sixty-five members.

I have no words to express the happiness they can provide. Whenever I am low, those kids, those elderly people, and their unconditional love make my heart warm. They never let me feel alone. They remind me of the love I used to miss after her death. But now, i always feel her around. It’s like she helps me to take care of these people. From strangers to family, they made my life full.

Essay on the Happiest Day of My life: 800-900 words

The day was September 12th, 2019, and it was the happiest day of my life. It was a day filled with love, joy, and unforgettable memories that I will cherish forever. As I reflect upon that day, I am overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude for the amazing people and experiences that made it so special.

The day started like any other, with the sun shining and birds chirping outside my window. But as I got out of bed and looked at the date on my phone, a wave of excitement washed over me. It was my 25th birthday, and I could feel that this was going to be a day to remember.

I started my day with a morning workout, something that always puts me in a good mood. As I was finishing up my run, my phone rang. It was my best friend, Sarah, calling to wish me a happy birthday. Sarah is like a sister to me, and we have been through thick and thin together. She told me that she had a surprise for me and that she would pick me up in an hour.

As I waited for Sarah to arrive, my mind raced with possibilities of what the surprise could be. Little did I know, it was going to be one of the most incredible experiences of my life.

When Sarah arrived, she blindfolded me and told me to trust her. I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness as we got into her car and drove for what felt like hours. Finally, she parked the car, and I could hear the sound of waves crashing against the shore. We had arrived at the beach!

Sarah took off my blindfold, and I was greeted with the most beautiful sight. The sun was starting to set, and the sky was painted with hues of pink, orange, and purple. A blanket was laid out on the sand, and a picnic basket filled with my favorite foods was waiting for us.

As we sat on the blanket and watched the sunset, Sarah shared stories about our adventures together and how grateful she was to have me in her life. We laughed, we cried, and we shared our dreams and aspirations for the future. It was a moment of pure bliss, being surrounded by nature and the person who knows me best.

Just as the sun was setting, Sarah handed me a gift. Inside was a scrapbook that she had been working on for months. It was filled with pictures and memories from our childhood, college years, and our recent travels. As I flipped through the pages, I was reminded of the countless moments of happiness, laughter, and love that we have shared together.

After the beach, Sarah and I went out for dinner at my favorite restaurant. As we ate, we talked about our future plans and how we would continue to support each other no matter what. After dinner, Sarah took me to a local theater where we watched a musical that I had been dying to see. The performance was breathtaking, and I could feel the music and dance moves lifting my spirits even higher.

But the surprises didn’t end there. When we got back to my apartment, I was greeted by a group of my closest friends, all dressed in party hats and holding balloons and a cake. They sang “Happy Birthday” to me, and we spent the rest of the night dancing, playing games, and reminiscing about old times.

As the clock struck midnight, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with happiness and gratitude. I had never felt so loved and appreciated in my entire life. The day had been filled with surprises, love, and unforgettable moments that I will treasure forever.

Looking back, I realize that the happiest day of my life was not just about the experiences I had or the material gifts I received. It was about the people in my life who have loved and supported me unconditionally. It was about the memories we have created and the moments we have shared.

This day taught me that happiness is not a destination; it is a journey that we embark on with the people we love. It taught me to cherish every moment and to never take the people in my life for granted.

As I lay in bed that night, I couldn’t stop smiling. I knew that this day would be etched in my heart forever. It was a reminder that I am surrounded by incredible people who make my life worth living. And for that, I will always be grateful.

In conclusion, the happiest day of my life was not just about me, but it was about the love, laughter, and memories that were shared with the people who mean the most to me. It taught me to appreciate the little things, to cherish the moments, and to always be grateful for the people in my life. September 12th, 2019, will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will continue to strive for more days like that in the future.

I hope the above-given essays will give you a clear idea of how to write an essay on the happiest day of your life. Take note of these, write one on your own, and see how well you can write it.

short Essay On Happiest Moment In My Life

As an AI language model, I don’t have personal experiences or emotions, but I can imagine that the happiest moment in one’s life can be a moment of personal triumph, a moment of love and connection with others, or a moment of pure joy and contentment.

One of the most memorable moments in a person’s life could be a major accomplishment, such as graduating from school, landing a dream job, or winning a competition. These moments of personal triumph bring a sense of pride, satisfaction, and validation of one’s hard work and effort.

Another source of happiness is spending time with loved ones. Whether it’s a family gathering, a wedding, or simply spending time with close friends, these moments of love and connection with others bring a sense of joy and comfort.

Finally, moments of pure joy and contentment, such as watching a beautiful sunset, listening to music, or enjoying a hobby, can bring a deep sense of happiness. These moments can provide a break from the stress and responsibilities of everyday life, and allow us to simply relax and enjoy the moment.

In conclusion, the happiest moments in life can come from a variety of sources and are unique to each individual. Whether it’s a moment of personal triumph, love and connection with others, or pure joy and contentment, these moments bring a sense of happiness and fulfillment that can last a lifetime.

long Essay On Happiest Moment In My Life

Everyone has those special memories in life that stand out and make them smile. From small moments of joy to the greatest accomplishments, we all have something that brings us happiness. In this article, I explore my own happiest moment in life and reflect on what made it so special. By sharing my story, I hope to inspire you to find your own most treasured memory and appreciate the magic of happy moments.

Introduction

It was the happiest moment of my life when I received my college acceptance letter. It felt like all of my hard work had finally paid off and I was one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a doctor. That moment was made even happier by the fact that I was accepted into my first choice school, which meant that I would be able to stay close to home and continue playing for my high school’s lacrosse team. The happiest moment of my life was not only a product of my hard work and dedication, but also the love and support of my family and friends. My parents have always been my biggest support system and have helped me through every step of the college application process. From helping me stay organized to providing much-needed moral support, their unwavering belief in me has been instrumental in getting me to where I am today. My friends provided me with endless encouragement during this stressful time in my life, making sure that I had someone to talk to about all of the anxieties associated with applying for college.

Overall, the happiest moment in my life was a combination of years of hard work culminating in one defining moment. It was a moment that I will cherish forever as it showed me that when I put my mind to something, anything is possible.

Childhood memories of my happiest moment

I was 6 years old when it happened. It was a sunny day, and I remember running around in the backyard with my friends. We were laughing and playing games, and I felt so carefree and happy. Then, out of nowhere, a gust of wind came and blew my hat off. I chased after it, but it was caught by a tree. I climbed up to get it, and when I reached the top, I felt like I was on top of the world. That moment was one of pure happiness, and it’s something that I’ve never forgotten.

How I felt at the time

I was on top of the world. I had just won the state championship in track and I was feeling invincible. I thought to myself, “There’s nothing that can bring me down now.” I was so proud of myself and my accomplishments. I felt like I could do anything.

What I learned from that experience

In that moment, I learned that happiness doesn’t come from material things or from other people. Happiness comes from within. It comes from your own thoughts, your own perceptions, and your own actions.

I also learned that the happiest moments in life are often the simplest ones. It’s not about big events or grand gestures. It’s about the little things that make you smile, the things that make you feel alive.

So, what can you do to create more happiness in your life? Start by paying attention to your thoughts and your perceptions. Be mindful of the words you use to describe your life and your experiences. Choose to see the positive in every situation, even when it’s difficult. And take action towards your goals and dreams. When you do these things, you’ll start to experience more happiness in your life – guaranteed!

The impact this moment had on my life

This moment was very impactful for me because it was the first time I had ever felt truly happy. I had always been a pretty happy person, but this moment was different. It was like all of the sudden everything in my life made sense and I knew what I wanted to do with my life. This moment changed everything for me and set me on a new path that I am still on today.

The lessons it taught me about joy, contentment, and gratitude

It was the happiest moment of my life when I received my college degree. I had worked hard for four long years and it had finally paid off. The sense of accomplishment and joy I felt was indescribable. It was at that moment that I realized the importance of setting goals and working hard to achieve them.

That experience taught me three very important lessons: the first is that joy comes from within; it is not dependent on external circumstances. Second, contentment is possible even when life isn’t perfect; we can find happiness in the simple things if we just take the time to appreciate them. And lastly, gratitude is one of the most important emotions we can feel; being thankful for what we have, no matter how small, can make a big difference in our overall attitude and outlook on life.

All in all, the happiest moment of my life was when I achieved my dream of graduating college with honors. It was a moment filled with joy and pride that I will cherish forever. Though it took hard work and dedication to get there, it has ultimately made me into who I am today: a confident individual striving for success and happiness in life. No matter what obstacles come our way, we should always remember this important lesson: no dream is impossible if you put your heart and soul into achieving it!

English Summary

Happiest Day of My Life Essay

On holiday, I was sitting in my room after finishing my homework. As my friends were away to hill stations, I was feeling very lonely. I watched the cars and other vehicles passing by and wished that like my friends, I would also have been traveling or passing my time.

I signed the paper and took the parcel. My hands were itching to open the packet out of intense curiosity. I ripped the parcel open and found a beautiful tape recorder in it. The parcel has been sent from the U.S. and the letter along with it was from my uncle who had sent me a wonderful gift.

My uncle had arranged everything for me the tickets and the visa. I already had a passport. My heart skipped several beats as I ran to give this great news to my mother.

She was taken aback initially and her first reaction was not so positive. However, she thought over it, consulted my father who was in his office and they both agreed to allow me to go to the United States to spend the rest of my holidays with my uncle.

I jumped from room to room and started packing my clothes, my books and other articles that I would need there. My mind was filled with various ideas about how I would spend my time with my cousins.

I started dreaming about Disney Land, Universal Studios, the Statue of Liberty, the Grand Canyon and the other tourist attractions that I had read about in magazines.

My father took me shopping the same day because he felt that I would need some more things to take along. We bought gifts for my cousins and my uncle and aunt and when I came back home my cupboard was full of new clothes, shoes and gifts.

Since I had not expected any such thing to happen to me, and I had been feeling sorry for myself, this offer came as a great surprise. This was indeed the happiest day of my life and I don’t think I shall ever forget it as long as I live

How to Spend Time to Maximize Happiness

Which activities make people most (and least) happy.

Posted August 8, 2024 | Reviewed by Gary Drevitch

  • How we spend our time impacts happiness.
  • Some activities make us happier than others.
  • Simply knowing this can help you prioritize your resources and plan accordingly.

Time is the great equalizer in life. No matter where you live, what you do for work, or how much money you have, we are all granted 24 hours in a day that we can choose to optimize accordingly. The sobering truth is that a lot of this time is spent on mundane activities ( sleeping , chores) and obligations (work). However, even the busiest of us have some free time to do with as we please. This raises the focal question of this post: What activities are best for making us happy?

In a survey conducted for Our World in Data, a project published by the non-profit organization Global Change Data Lab , going to the theater, concerts, sporting games/events, playing with children, and going to restaurants/pubs were the top five activities that make people the happiest on average 1 . Note that all five of these activities are both exciting and typically involve a social component. Seeing a performer we love or a sports team we support can be fun, memorable, and potentially a once-in-a-lifetime event that we cherish and will look back on with a smile on our face for weeks, months, or years. These findings support research showing that spending money on experiences (vs. material goods) boosts happiness 2 .

Concert tickets and dining out can be expensive. Activities that are a little lower on the list that are enjoyable without the price tag include sleeping, board games and computer games, religious services, playing sports, hobbies, and walking dogs. If you’re on a budget or looking for something more ordinary on any given day, consider spending time on one of these cheap or free activities to boost your mood.

What about the activities that make us least happy? The top five villains in this case were doing homework, looking/applying for a job, domestic chores (cleaning, laundry), commuting, and working. These activities all fall under the umbrella of tasks we must do. Although these tasks can be unavoidable in some cases, one can be creative in an attempt to make them more fun.

Our World in Data

Listening to music or an entertaining podcast can make homework, chores, and commuting more enjoyable when paired together. For particularly unpleasant yet important tasks, create a reward for yourself once you’ve finished. For example, plan a dinner out at a restaurant you love or a movie you’ve been wanting to see that evening to help get you through the task.

Breaking up unpleasant tasks at home or at work can also be highly effective. Planning to sit down for 4-plus hours straight and work on a difficult or unpleasant task is extremely hard, especially if there is no concrete deadline. I recently bought a timer to track work time, which I usually set for 45 minutes for work tasks. Once the 45 minutes is up, I will go for a short walk, have a snack, or watch a YouTube video before getting back to work. This technique, similar to the Pomodoro method, can help increase enjoyment and motivation . Give it a try.

The old adage “knowledge is power" rings true for understanding the activities we can spend our valuable resources of time and money on to increase happiness. By deliberately spending resources more on the positive, less on the negative, and exercising creativity in finding tricks to make unenjoyable tasks a little more fun, we can become the architects of our happiness.

Paragraph on Happiest Day Of My Life

Students are often asked to write a paragraph on Happiest Day Of My Life in their schools. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 200-word, and 250-word paragraphs on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

Paragraph on Happiest Day Of My Life in 100 Words

The happiest day of my life was when I got my little puppy, Spot. I woke up one morning and saw a tiny, fluffy dog with big, bright eyes looking at me. Oh, I felt so happy and excited! I hugged him tight, he wagged his little tail, and we played all day. Spot and I ran in the park, we laughed, and we even had a fun picnic. Spot loved the treats I gave him. That day was filled with joy and laughter, and I’ll always remember it as the happiest day of my life.

Paragraph on Happiest Day Of My Life in 200 Words

The happiest day of my life was when I got my puppy, Fluffy. I had always wanted a pet, especially a dog, but my parents always said, “Not right now.” Then, on my birthday, I woke up to a surprise. My parents took me to the living room and there was Fluffy, a small golden retriever, with a red bow around her neck. My heart overflowed with joy and I couldn’t believe my eyes. I ran to Fluffy, hugged her and she licked my face. I laughed and played with her the whole day. Fluffy was so soft, warm, and cuddly. I felt over the moon. It was the best gift ever. I knew that day my life was going to be filled with more fun, love, and adventures with Fluffy. I’ll always remember that birthday as the happiest day of my life because it was the day I got my best friend, Fluffy. That day taught me that sometimes, the most joyous moments in life come as surprises. Since then, every day has been a happy day because of Fluffy, but that day will always be the happiest.

Paragraph on Happiest Day Of My Life in 250 Words

The happiest day of my life was when I received my first bicycle on my tenth birthday. I had been longing for a bicycle for a long time. I used to dream about racing down the streets, the wind in my hair, and a feeling of pure joy in my heart. My parents knew this, and on my birthday, they surprised me with a shiny new bicycle, adorned with colorful ribbons. The moment I saw it, my heart filled with a joy I had never felt before. I remember running towards it, unable to believe it was truly mine. My parents stood by, their faces lit up with smiles, as I hopped on and began to ride around our garden. I felt like I was flying, my happiness knew no bounds. I spent the whole day riding it, not wanting to stop even for a moment. That day, I felt an overwhelming sense of freedom and elation. As I rode my bike, I realized the joy wasn’t just in owning a bicycle, but also in seeing the love and thoughtfulness of my parents. They had made my dream come true, and that made the day even more special. From that day forward, my bicycle became my most prized possession. The memory of that day remains etched in my mind as the happiest day of my life, a day filled with love, surprise, and pure joy.

My Happiest Moment in Life

I find happiness in very small-small things of my life but these are some moments in my life that bring a smile to my face when I remember them. I can say that they are the happiest moments of my life. I will be telling you about one of the happiest moments of my life. I feel very nice to enumerate this moment of my life.

I was studying in class 10th at that time. It was announced in our school that there is a district-level competition of quiz and poster presentations. It will be involving several schools’ participation. The notices regarding the participation of students in the competition were distributed in every class. I was very excited to take part in the poster presentation. I enrolled my name for the competition.

  • Process of selection for the competition – The team that had to represent our school for different competitions was to be selected in the school itself. The first barrier was the selection in school. I was very happy when I got selected for the school team that had to represent our school in the district competition. The presentation has to be given in a group and therefore the final team had been finalized. There were four members in the team including me.
  • Pre-Preparation for the competition – Every team member presented their innovative ideas on the topic and lastly after summing up those ideas I prepared the poster. We had prepared three posters on the topic. We made a lot of effort to make our presentation the best one.
  • The day of the competition – finally the competition day arrived and we were a little nervous too. We have been taken to the destination of the competition by school bus. The teachers were also accompanying us. We performed our best and delivered the presentation beautifully. I was the group leader and therefore I was more nervous about the results. It was about the reputation of my school. Finally, the competition was over and the results of the competition were declared. It was started by announcing the third prize winner.

My heart started sinking down. Finally, I could not believe it when it was announced that our school has bagged the first prize. We were dancing with joy. I was very happy to make my school proud. Moreover, I was happy because the idea of the presentation was my own. The overwhelming joy of that moment cannot be expressed in words.

  • Award distribution event – The winning participants have been invited the next day with the whole family for prize distribution and dinner. This was more exciting for me. I went to the destined place and I along with my team was awarded by the District magistrate. It felt very nice to hear the name of my school at the first position. I handed over the trophy to my vice principal. My parents were very happy for me. We had dinner and enjoyed that evening beautifully with my family and group members. Later I and my team members were praised by the whole faculty of the school including the principal. This news and pictures of the winning teams were also published in the newspaper.

My father was very happy for me and therefore he promised a tour in summer vacations as a reward for winning. We had enjoyed that moment very beautifully. I feel very happy whenever I remember that moment in school.

How can we make our Life Enriched with Happy Moments?

Everybody in this world craves happiness. We cannot buy happiness but can gain it in the small things we do in our life. One such moment might become the happiest moment of our life. Happiness is something that we experience in doing different things in our life.  It is created from the inside. The state of being happy lies in the positivity of our minds. When we accept the reality we enjoy the things granted to us. This brings happiness to our lives. This particularly means that we have to learn to live our life. This will induce hundreds of happy moments and make our life a beautiful experience.

It was one of the happiest moments in my life that thrills and cherishes me from inside whenever comes to my mind. I was very happy to bring glory to my school. Essay On My Happiest Memory

A perfect picnic.

It was a beautiful summer day when my friend group decided to get together for a picnic. We packed blankets, snacks, and activities, then headed to a shady spot under enormous trees at the park. (Topic sentence) Setting up, I remember giggling at silly inside jokes and anticipating treats like sandwiches and juice boxes. Bright sunshine dappled green grass as we played together carefree like the warmth never intended to leave our skin.

A Memorable Treasure Hunt

To entertain ourselves, we devised an epic scavenger hunt around the whole park with riddles we had to solve to find various items to earn points. Racing through tulip patches and playgrounds with others cheering us on brought such glee. (Transition) My friend gave the best clue, hinting at a hidden spot near three oaks, which led me to discover a fake diamond ring – the round goes to me! (Topic sentence) Coming together for play lifted smiles as high as songbirds singing praise.

A Picnic Masterpiece

After working up an appetite with activities, we claimed a spot under willow branches hanging low as curtains to share our feast. Homemade cookies, fruits cut like flowers, and sandwiches cut into star shapes became art on our plates to savor and could not wait to taste. (Transition) Cool lemonade and giggles between bites kept shoulders touching in the shade of a tree aloft, a luminous sphere rising golden through leafy boughs overhead. (Topic sentence) Not a single drop of blue remained in the skies by the picnic’s end, yet its imprint stayed upon my heart.

Day’s End Delight

That afternoon was strung too perfectly with moments meant not to last, so basking in its beauty while daylight still embraced us seemed most wise. Slide down a grassy hill could lift any spirit skyward, then float back down, unraveling laughter’s melody once more. (Transition) Waving goodbye, holding memory near outlined in light spilled across the clouds, and I found refuge under knowing joy’s tune played on within. (Topic sentence) Though years may pass between, not a note could be forgotten of picnic played for keeps upon that summer’s sweetest day.

Cherished Gem

Simply reliving this happiest memory through writing brings my heart the same comfort felt among dear ones that dusk. The carefree play, shared treats, and bonding make it a treasured gem to hold near whenever the skies cloud over. Though many wonderful memories await, precious few may shine as bright as the favorite, happiest picnic’s glow. I am blessed to have such company and moments to revisit wherever life finds me.

Three times a day my phone pings with a notification telling me that I have a new happiness survey to take. The survey, from TrackYourHappiness.org , asks me a series of questions about what I was doing the moment right before I take it, whether I wanted to be doing it, how focused I was on my task, how productive I was being and how happy I felt about it all. I measure my emotional levels with a little toggle that slides from “bad” to “good.” Though the trackers’ authors offer a disclaimer that “correlation does not prove causation,” results from thousands of its users published in 2010 suggest that people are happier when they are focused.

After I took 100 surveys over about a month, that’s not what my results told me. I reported the most happiness when I was eating and the least when I was working. I was happier at home than I was outside or anywhere else.

My biggest takeaway, though, is that much of my life consists of things that I don’t particularly want to do, like folding laundry and struggling with the wording of a paragraph. Being reminded that most of my life is obligatory does not exactly spark joy.

As the weeks of survey-taking went by, I had another, more paralyzing thought: that this focus on my feelings was instilling a new kind of anxiety. Rather than just walking one of my kids home from school and contentedly listening to her chatter about sedimentary rocks, I was thinking about the survey’s infernal happiness toggle and where this experience ranked relative to the other moments I had tracked.

The survey is just one example from an increasingly crowded field of tools offering consumers the chance not just to contemplate their happiness but also to measure it, track it, schedule it and optimize it. Every app store is overflowing with offerings like the Happiness Planner, Happiness 360°, Daylio and more. Apple’s Health app has a mood tracker (with one of those damn toggles) built into all of its devices, and even my Fitbit offers mood tracking, with some fancy bonus features if I pay to upgrade to premium status.

According to Stephen Schueller, a psychologist who runs the technology and mental health lab at the University of California, Irvine, there are now thousands of these apps — so many that he used to run an entire site that reviewed their credibility, user experience and transparency. How-to books about boosting your happiness in measurable ways are mainstays on best-seller lists. And there is no end to online courses and expensive products that make similar promises.

Gold is Gabby's, at last.

Gabby Thomas surged to victory the women's 200m final on Tuesday night in Paris, winning wire-to-wire in 21.83 seconds. In the process, she has claimed her Olympic gold medal. Thomas led from the gun and finished with daylight between her and silver medalist Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia, who won 100m gold on Saturday.

“I’m really in disbelief because having an Olympic gold medal is something in my wildest dreams," Thomas said. "But at the same time I know how hard I’ve fought for it. This has been six years in the making, head down, working hard.

This is the happiest moment of my life.

Thomas is joined on the medal podium by U.S. teammate Brittany Brown , who earned bronze for her first Olympic medal. Brown entered Paris with only one world medal (a silver from 2019 Worlds), and her 22.20-second dash around the purple Stade de France track has now added an Olympic bronze to her docket.

RACE RESULTS

For the race's emphatic victor, Thomas, this win comes after a string of falling short of gold in major title races. At the Tokyo Olympics, she took bronze. In her next big-ticket race, 2023 Worlds, it was a silver. Now in Paris, she's got her gold.

From the moment she landed in the City of Light, Thomas was the clear woman to beat. The withdrawal of Jamaican rival Shericka Jackson only ballooned that target.

"There's definitely some added pressure going into this Olympics," Thomas told NBC Olympics. "Once you've already had success, people are kind of waiting for you to mess up."

With expectations fully mounted, Thomas didn't mess up — not even close. From the moment the starting pistol was fired, she was in charge.

"I just knew that I had it," she said moments after her gold-winning run. "It was a confidence that you can’t really describe. Of course there was pressure, but I felt confident.”

The Paris Olympic title secures the 14th gold medal for the U.S. in the Olympic women's 200m, which breaks a 13-13 tie with Jamaica for the most in history (no Jamaican earned a 200m medal this year for the first time since 1976). And Thomas is the first American since Allyson Felix in 2012 to strike gold in the women's event.

The 27-year-old has endeared herself to the American public not just with her command of the track, but also with her extraordinary public health work. She volunteers weekly at a Volunteer Healthcare Clinic (VHC) in Austin, Texas, which provides primary care to children and adults without access to such care.

“A lot of people can say they want to do things, but Gabby is actually doing this work at a high level,” said the clinic's Director of Volunteer Services, Laura Hurst. “I don’t think you can underestimate the power of what one person can do."

With a Harvard degree in neurobiology and global health, plus a master’s in epidemiology from the University of Texas, Thomas is a safe bet to impact public health for decades after she stops running professionally.

"It's so fulfilling because we're actually making a direct impact and these are people who really do have a need for healthcare," Thomas said.

As she has volunteered her time, Thomas has remained "laser-focused" on her on-track mission: 200m Olympic gold. In the spring, she briefly flirted with the idea of contesting the 400m at U.S. Trials. But when decision time came, Thomas elected to stick with the 200m: "My goal is to focus on the 200, and to get the gold in the 200 meters.”

Thomas' subsequent dominance at Trials, where she posted a world-leading 21.78, sent her to Olympics No. 2. Now, she has made good on the gold goal.

"You prepare for this moment and train so hard for this moment," Thomas said. "But when it actually comes, it's indescribable."

Thomas is a woman of many titles — Harvard grad, healthcare worker, maybe even future doctor — and now, she's earned the once-evasive designation of Olympic champion.

I moved to South Korea to save money for a year. When I returned to the US, I hated it and ran back to Asia.

  • I moved from the US to South Korea to teach English and escape my poor financial situation.
  • I loved Korea and found my money went further there than it did in many places I'd lived in the US.
  • I went back to the US for a year, hated it, and returned to Asia, where I hope to stay.

Insider Today

When I graduated from college in May 2009, I left with a bachelor's degree in psychology, a spring in my step, and $60,000 in student loans .

Making the first few loan payments didn't hurt much. At the time, I was living in southwest Missouri, where I paid just $200 for my portion of the rent in a shared apartment.

But my low living expenses weren't exciting enough to keep me in the Ozarks. I was bored and knew I'd only be young once, so I quit my $12-an-hour job and moved to the Denver area to be with friends.

Moving to an area with a higher cost of living meant money got tight fast.

I was paying over $700 in rent, $100 to my parents for a car payment, $50 for insurance, and a whopping $610 in student loans to three separate companies each month — all on a salary of about $30,000 a year.

I took a sales job a year later that sent me to Portland, Oregon, where my living expenses skyrocketed even more. I split costs with roommates but had to put some of my loans into forbearance .

It was a short-term reprieve since my payments were paused, but my loans were still accruing interest. I was living paycheck to paycheck, racking up credit-card debt , and drowning in the depressive mist of the Pacific Northwest.

Then, as if by magic, I saw Facebook posts from an acquaintance who'd recently returned from teaching English in South Korea for a year.

I decided I wanted to try the same — even if only to escape my current circumstances.

Moving to South Korea gave me a disposable income, and I loved my life there

After a bit of research, I realized I could teach English abroad with just my college degree, without additional special certifications or licensure.

Related stories

After applications and interviews, an academy in Daegu, South Korea's fourth-largest city, offered me a job. I accepted without hesitation.

By February 2013, I'd gotten my visa and left the US to start what I thought would be one year abroad.

I fell in love with my teaching job. For the first time since leaving Missouri, I had more money than I needed to get by — even though I was technically making a little less an hour than I'd been making in the US when I left.

My employer paid for my housing, and getting around was no problem since public transit was accessible and incredibly affordable in South Korea. I especially loved the bus system, where rides often cost me less than $1.

I was also able to travel — Seoul was a short, cheap bus or train ride away, and I could fly to Jeju Island for a nice escape at a decent price, depending on the time of year.

I had to send money home every month to cover my loan payments and pay down credit-card debt, but I still managed to have a great time.

I stayed in South Korea for years — but my return to the US wasn't what I'd hoped

I enjoyed living in Korea so much that I extended my initial one-year teaching contract three times.

But after a few years at the same academy with the same material, I was ready to tap out. I'd started freelance writing on the side and wanted to pursue it full time.

I quit teaching in 2017 and moved to the Dallas area to live with my best friend from college and start my own business.

But it turned out that the US was even more expensive than it had been when I'd left just a few years before.

I didn't have a car, so I had to rely on my friend or ride-hailing services. I also still had a ton of debt, so I was doing everything I could to keep my head above water.

On top of that, I had no idea how to run a freelance business, so I panicked and took the first full-time job I could get doing content strategy and writing for an agency.

I hated my job, felt more isolated than ever, and once again found myself trying to live on a shoestring budget.

When Korea called again, I happily answered

Almost a year to the day that I left Korea, I got an email from my previous school asking if I'd consider returning. At first, I laughed.

Taking a job I'd already had in a place I'd already lived felt like a massive step backward. But I hated being back in the US, and I'd loved  my life in Korea.

I was the happiest I'd ever been in Korea, and I was a lot more financially comfortable. Even with my paid-for rent aside, my money went much further in the country — especially when it came to getting around or dining out.

I headed back to South Korea with a new work visa within six months of receiving that email. Landing at Incheon International Airport felt like coming home.

It's been six years since my return, and I feel my teaching clock winding down again. I'm ready to start a new career path and, as of late 2020, I've paid off my debts.

I still have no interest in returning to the US anytime soon. I may leave South Korea sometime next year, but I'd definitely like to stay in Asia.

My cost of living on this side of the world, the friends I've made, and the access I have to travel are worth more to me than I can express.
