Leo is expected to perform well on its first day at the box office. As per Sacnilk.com, the first-day box office collection is likely to be ₹ 68 crore nett in India for all languages, as per early estimates. The gross collection of the film in India is expected to be ₹ 80 crore. The overseas collection is likely to be ₹ 65 crore and the worldwide gross is likely to be ₹ 145 crore.

In this acclaimed Oscar winning biopic, billionaire and aviation tycoon Howard Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a successful public figure: a director of big-budget Hollywood films such as “Hell’s Angels,” a passionate lover of Hollywood leading ladies Katharine Hepburn (Cate Blanchett) and Ava Gardner (Kate Beckinsale), and an aviation pioneer who helps build TWA into a major airline. But in private, Hughes remains tormented, suffering from paralyzing phobias and depression. The higher he rises, the farther he has to fall.

Prisoners - September 19

Nominated for the best cinematography at the 86th Academy Awards, and chosen by the National Board of Review as one of the top ten films of 2013, Prisoners follows the abduction of two young girls in Pennsylvania and the subsequent search for the perpetrator by the police. After police arrest a young suspect and release him, the father of one of the daughters takes matters into his own hands. Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the psychological thriller is written by Aaron Guzikowski and features Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Viola Davis in lead.

The Reader - September 19

The Reader follows Michael Berg who watches a train pass in 1995 Berlin. Flashing back to a tram ride from 1958. Michael, then 15, feels sick, getting off the tram to walk in the rain. Found by tram conductor Hanna Schmitz, 36, cleans him up and helps him home. As Michael is diagnosed with scarlet fever, he falls in love with Hanna Schmitz. After an argument, Hanna leaves and Michael is left devastated. Directed by Stephen Daldry, the steamy romantic film stars Kate Winslet, Ralph Fiennes, and Bruno Ganz.

Scream 4 - September 19

Directed by Wes Craven and written by Kevin Williamson, in the fourth installment of the popular franchise, Scream 4 , it has been many years since the Ghostface Killer cut a deadly path through the town of Woodsboro. In order to get over the trauma of those horrific events, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has written a self-help book. She returns to Woodsboro for her book tour and reconnects with old friends Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) and Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette). However, Sidney’s arrival also sparks the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney and everyone she loves in danger.

Red - September 19

The American action comedy film, inspired by the DC Comics limited series of the same name, follows a former CIA black ops agent Frank Moses who lives a quiet life. One day, an assassination squad attacks Frank at his home, but he single-handedly kills the entire squad. Frank travels to Missouri to rescue his love, Sarah, resorting to kidnapping her when she refuses to come along with him. Meanwhile, a young CIA agent is tasked by his supervisor Cynthia Wilkes to kill Frank. The film is directed by Robert Schwentke and written by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Warren Ellis. It features an ensemble cast of Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, and Karl Urban.

Red 2 - September 19

The American action comedy film and sequel to the 2010 film Red . The film follows the ex-CIA operative Frank Moses, three years after the events of the previous film, as he tries to lead a normal life with girlfriend Sarah Ross. Government agents interrogate Frank at an FBI Yankee White facility. Corrupt agent Jack Horton and a team of private military contractors ambush the facility; he threatens to torture Sarah until Frank gives him the information he needs. The film is directed by Dean Parisot and written by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Warren Ellis. The film features an ensemble cast of Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Anthony Hopkins, and Lee Byung-hun in the lead.

Step Up - September 19

Step Up (2006), directed by Anne Fletcher, is a dance drama that follows Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum), a rebellious street dancer, and Nora Clark (Jenna Dewan), a disciplined ballet dancer. Step Up 2: The Streets (2008) is the second film in the Step Up franchise, directed by Jon M. Chu. OTT Release This Week: என்ன ஒரே சூப்பர் படங்களா இருக்கே? - இந்த வாரம் ஓடிடியில் என்ன ஸ்பெஷல் பாருங்க!

OTT Release This Week: இந்த வாரம் ரசிகர்கள் எதிர்பார்த்த பல படங்கள் ஓடிடியில் ரிலீஸாக தயாராக உள்ளது. அதன் விவரம் பற்றி பார்க்கலாம்.

சார்பட்டா பரம்பரைக்குப் பின், பா.இரஞ்சித் கடைசியாக இயக்கிய படம், நட்சத்திரம் நகர்கிறது. அதனைத் தொடர்ந்து, அவர் இயக்கிய படம் தான், தங்கலான். இப்படத்தில் நடிகர் விக்ரம், பார்வதி, பசுபதி, மாளவிகா மோகனன் ஆகியோர் நடித்திருந்தனர். இப்படத்தின் ஷீட்டிங், ஒகேனக்கல், மதுரை, ஆந்திராவின் கடப்பா போன்றப் பல்வேறு பகுதிகளில் நடந்தது.

கோலார் தங்க வயல் பின்னணியில் உருவான இந்த திரைப்படம் கடந்த நூற்றாண்டுகளில் வாழ்ந்த ஒடுக்கப்பட்ட மக்களின் யதார்த்த வாழ்வியலையும், ஆதிக்கத்திற்கு கட்டுப்பட்டு உரிமைகளுக்காக போராடிய அவர்களின் போராட்ட வாழ்வியலை மாய யதார்த்தம் மற்றும் புதுமையான திரை மொழியால் உருவாக்கப்பட்டு இருந்தது.

இதில் சீயான் விக்ரமின் அர்ப்பணிப்புடன் கூடிய கடின உழைப்பை கண்களை இமைக்க மறந்து, அகல விரித்து.. கண்டு ரசித்து, வியந்து பாராட்டாதவர்களே இல்லை எனலாம். இது அவருடைய ரசிகர்களுக்கு மட்டுமல்லாமல் அனைத்து தரப்பினருக்கும் புதிய அனுபவத்தை அளித்தது. 'தங்கலான்' படம் வரும் செப்டம்பர் 20 ஆம் தேதி நெட்ஃபிளிக்ஸ் ஓடிடி தளத்தில் வெளியாக உள்ளது.

டிமான்ட்டி காலனி 2

அஜய் ஞானமுத்து இயக்கத்தில் அருள்நிதி, ரமேஷ் திலக், சனத் உள்ளிட்ட பலர் நடிப்பில் வெளியான படம் ‘டிமான்ட்டி காலனி’. 2015-ம் ஆண்டு வெளியான இந்தப் படம் நல்ல வரவேற்பைப் பெற்றது. 7 ஆண்டுகள் கழித்து இந்தப் படத்தின் இரண்டாம் பாகம் சமீபத்தில் வெளியானது. முதல் பாகத்தை இயக்கிய அஜய் ஞானமுத்துவே இரண்டாம் பாகத்தையும் இயக்கி இருக்கிறார். அருள்நிதி நாயகனாக நடிக்கும் இப்படத்தில் பிரியா பவானி சங்கர் முன்னணி கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடித்து இருக்கிறார். சாம்.சி. எஸ் இசையமைத்து உள்ளார். டிமான்ட்டி காலனி 2 படம்  வரும் 27 ஆம் தேதி ஜீ5 தளத்தில் ரிலீஸாகிறது.

லால் சலாம் திரைப்படம் ரஜினியின் கேரியரில் மிக மோசமான பேரழிவாக அமைந்தது. லால் சலாம் படத்தை ரஜினியின் மகள் ஐஸ்வர்யா ரஜினிகாந்த் இயக்கியுள்ளார்.

கிட்டத்தட்ட ஒன்பது வருட இடைவெளிக்குப் பிறகு ஐஸ்வர்யா, லால் சலாம் படத்தின் மூலம் இயக்குநராக ரீ- என்ட்ரி கொடுத்தார். லால் சலாம் படத்தில் விஷ்ணு விஷால், விக்ராந்த் ஆகியோர் ஹீரோவாக நடித்திருந்தனர். ரஜினிகாந்த் நீண்ட கெஸ்ட் ரோலில் நடித்தார். 'லால் சலாம்' படம் செப்டம்பர் 20 ஆம் தேதி ஓடிடியில் ரிலீஸ் ஆக இருப்பதாக தகவல் வெளியாகி உள்ளது.

தலைவெட்டியான் பாளையம்

ஸ்டேண்டப் காமடியன் அபிஷேக் குமார் நடித்து இந்தியில் வெளியான தொடர் ‘பஞ்சாயத்’. இது தமிழ் மொழியில் ‘தலைவெட்டியான் பாளையம்’ என்ற பெயரில் ரீமேக் செய்யப்பட்டது. அமேசான் பிரைமில் வரும் செப்டம்பர் 20 ஆம் தேதி வெளியாகிறது.

New OTT Releases this week In Tamil [July 2024] : Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, Zee5 and Others

Here’s the list of the latest Tamil Movie releases this week on OTT.

With the first half of Tamil cinema's 2024 witnessing a lull state, it seems to be bouncing back with its star-studded second half. With films like Raayan, Indian 2, Kanguva, Thangalaan, Vidaa Muyarchi, The GOAT, and Vettaiyan, gearing up for releases, it is definitely the six months audience are awaiting.

Enjoy 20 OTT platforms streaming South content including SunNXT, aha, ManoramaMAX, ZEE5 and more at just ₹75.  

Apart from this, interesting projects like Thug Life, Bloody Beggar, Ace, Kottukkali and others are also expected to hit theatres soon. But as we know that good things take time, we have come up with this week's releases that you can watch in theatres and on OTT platforms that can keep you entertained. Here is the list of films and series that you can watch this week.

New Tamil OTT releases movies to watch this week

Release Platform: Netflix

Release Date: July 14

Maharaja is Vijay Sethupathi's 50th film as lead actor. It is directed by Nithilan Saminathan and also stars Natraj, Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Singampuli, and others. The crime thriller is about a man who lodges a complaint that a trash can from his house has been stolen by thieves.

Aadujeevitham

Release Date: July 19

Aadujeevitham is a Malayalam film which is also available in Tamil. Directed by Blessy, it stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role. The film revolves around a Malayali immigrant who travels to Saudi Arabia for a better income, but forced to be a slave and work as goatherd. 

Release Platform: Aha

The Akaali is written and directed by Mohamed Asif Hameed. It stars actors Swayam Siddha, Nasser, Vinoth Kishan, Arjai, Jayakumar, Thalaivasal Vijay, Vinothini, Yamini, Dharani Reddy, and Elavarasan, among others. The Akaali is about a newly-recruited cop who is put in-charge to probe an old case. However, in turn of events, she finds out about occult gangs who have been responsible for a series of satanic killings.

Hit List is a action thriller film starring Sarathkumar and Vijay Kanishka in lead roles. The film is about a man who is a follower of non-violence. However after a mysterious man abducts his mother and sister, he is held at gunpoint to take up violence. The film also stars Gautham Menon, Samuthirakani and others.

Release Platform: Aha Tamil

Release Date: July 5

Haraa is a revenge drama starring veteran actor Mohan in the lead role. The film is about a father-daughter bond and the extent to which the father goes to save his daughter. It is directed by Vijay Sri. Apart from Mohan, actors Anumol, Yogi Babu, Rajendran, Charuhasan, Anithra Nair, Suresh Menon, Vanitha Vijay Kumar, Mime Gopi, Aadhava Jaikuma, and Deepa are also part of the film’s cast.

Release Date: July 10

Election is a political drama film directed by Thamizh of Seththumaan fame. The film stars Vijay Kumar, Preethi Asrani, Richa Joshi, George Maryan, and others. It revolves around a man called Nadarasan, who does not seem to be interested in politics, but eventually jumps into it in order to honour his father. As he contests in the local body elections, Nadarasan understands the murky world of politics, the trials and tribulations and the cutthroat atmosphere.

Release Date: June 21

PT Sir is directed by Karthik Venugopal and stars Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi, Kashmira Pardeshi, Anikha Surendran, and others. Aadhi plays the role of a physical education trainer working in a school. The film revolves around how he stands up against the wrong in order to save a few students.

Inga Naan Thaan Kingu

Release Date: June 28

Inga Naan Thaan Kingu is a recently released Tamil film starring Santhanam in the lead role. The commercial entertainer also stars Priyalaya, Thambi Ramaiah, Bala Saravanan, Munishkanth, the late Manobala, Vivek Prasanna, Maran, Cool Suresh and others. The film is directed by Anand Narayan.

Uyir Thamizhukku

Release Date: June 25

Uyir Thamizhukku is a recently released Tamil film starring veteran director Ameer in the lead role. The film is a political drama directed by Adham Bava. Apart from Ameer, Uyir Thamizhukku also stars Chandini, Anandraj, Imman Annachi, Rajasimman, Saravana Sakthi, Mahanadhi Shankar, Subramaniam Siva, Ravi Venkatraman, Raj Kapoor, and others. Uyir Thamizhukku has music scored by Vidyasagar and cinematography by Devaraj. The film's editing was handled by Ashok Charles.

Kurangu Pedal

Kurangu Pedal is directed by Kamalakannan and backed by actor Sivakarthikeyan under his banner, Sivakarthikeyan Productions. Kurangu Pedal has been celebrated in the festival circuit after it became one of the three Tamil films to be screened at the Indian Panorama section of the 53rd International Film Festival of India. It is a period drama and revolves around a bunch of schoolboys who aspire to learn how to ride a bicycle all on their own during their summer vacations.

Cast: Santhosh Velmurugan, VR Ragavan, M Gnanasekar, Rathish, Sai Ganesh, Kaali Venkat, Prasanna Balachander, Jenson Diwakar 

Release date: June 14

Star is directed by Elan of Pyaar Prema Kaadhal-fame and is headlined by Kavin. The film is an underdog story of a boy who aspires to make it big in the movie industry as an actor. The film has music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja and also features actors Lal, Geetha Kailasam, Aaditi Pohankar, Preity Mukhundhan and others. Star is produced by Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra and Rise East Entertainment.

Varshangalkku Shesham

Starring Pranav Mohanlal and Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead roles, Varshangalkku Shesham is a period drama set against the backdrop of the film industry. இந்த வாரத்தில் கோழிப்பண்ணை செல்லதுரை, லப்பர் பந்து, நந்தன், கடைசி உலகப் போர், தோழர் சேகுவரா, தோனிமா ஆகிய ஆறு படங்கள் செப் 20ம் தேதி திரையரங்குகளில் வெளியாக உள்ளன.

சென்னை : தமிழ் சினிமாவில் வாராவாரம் நிறைய படங்கள் வெளியாவது வழக்கம். கடந்த 5ம்‌ தேதி இயக்குநர் வெங்கட் பிரபு இயக்கத்தில், விஜய் நடித்த தி கோட் திரைப்படம் வெளியானது. இப்படம் வெளியாகி ரசிகர்கள் மத்தியில் வரவேற்ப்பை பெற்று வருகிறது. அந்த வகையில், இந்த வாரம் ஏராளமான படங்கள் வெளியாக உள்ளது. இந்த வாரம் மட்டும் 6 படங்கள் வெளியாக உள்ளன.

கோழிப்பண்ணை செல்லதுரை : சீனு ராமசாமி இயக்கத்தில் ஏகன், யோகி பாபு உள்ளிட்டோர் நடித்துள்ள படம் கோழிப்பண்ணை செல்லதுரை. அண்ணன், தங்கை பாசத்தை மையப்படுத்தி இந்த படம் உருவாகியுள்ளது. சீனு ராமசாமியின் வழக்கமான மனித உணர்வுகளை பேசும் படமாக இது இருக்கும் என்று ரசிகர்களால் எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

Irish boxing thriller that punches above its weight available to watch this week

This homegrown indie sports flick has a real chance of finding an audience.

There’s an Irish indie movie heading into mutliplexes this weekend that has the potential to be a real homegrown, breakthrough hit.

That film is titled Swing Bout and is a crime thriller that takes place entirely backstage at a major boxing event.

Our main character is Toni (Ciara Berkeley), a young English boxer with a dark past who dreams of being a world champion. She finds herself in Ireland with the chance to box in front of a huge TV audience on a major fight card.

There’s one big problem though. On the evening of the fight, she is told by her shady coach (Sinead O’Riordan) and her even more shady promoters (a pair of brothers played by Ben Condron and Frank Prendergast) to throw the match.

As tensions escalate behind the scenes – on account of rivalries between fighters, medical emergences and a potential murder inquiry – Toni wrestles with what decision to make.

Written and directed by Maurice O’Carroll (known in the Irish independent film scene for his movie Dead Along the Way and web series Sucking Diesel), Swing Bout is quite rough around the edges in a way that highlights its humble origins.

The narration by an unseen John Connors – playing a motivational speaker that Toni listens to in the run-up to her fight – falls a bit flat, feeling like a strained effort to give a sense of grandeur to a movie that doesn’t really need it. After all, its claustrophobic, pressure cooker setting is effective enough already.

There’s also one or two subplots that don’t amount to much, with rising star Baz Black’s aging boxer character getting particularly short shrift.

Plus, even with one of the tag lines for the film reading: “Why show you the boxing when they’re killing each other back stage?” and the way O’Carroll does somewhat satisfy audiences’ desire to see some fighting in the climax, the movie’s lack of action inside the ring does feel anticlimactic.

And yet, even with these issues – which mostly come down to budget – Swing Bout punches above its weight in terms of craft.

There’s some excellent performances, particularly from Prendergast – as a reptilian promoter whose life of screwing people over and pushing his luck is catching up with him over the course of one fateful night.

Also worth highlighting is Megan Haly’s powerfully emotional turn as Mary Malicious, Toni’s only friend and a fellow boxer who is left badly injured after a fight.

In terms of the filmmaking, Carroll does terrific work for the most part keeping the stress levels high, staging several breathless scenes where two characters have a confrontational discussion while walking and talking or where more gather altogether in one space and scream over each other as the pressure of the situation they find themselves in comes to a head.

There’s also a brilliantly gripping scene – all rendered in a long take – where we see Mary filmed from the back of her head post-fight as she gets checked by medical personnel, with Carroll hiding for an agonising amount of time the extent of the young fighter’s injuries.

It’s in Swing Bout’s sense of escalating tension where it makes the best case for it deserving a cinema release, despite its flaws. Also, given its exciting premise – one that should appeal to movie lovers, as well as sports fans – we wouldn’t be surprised if this performs better at the box-office than might be expected.

Swing Bout will release in Irish cinemas on Friday, 20 September.

Three Indian projects rank on the global list of most-watched content on Netflix this week.

India’s film Sector 36 , and thriller web series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack have both made it to the weekly list of globally most-watched films and shows on the streaming platform Netflix. Headlined by Vikrant Massey and Deepak Dobriyal, Sector 36 ranked third on the list of most-watched non-English films on Netflix with 7.4 million watch hours. Anubhav Sinha’s IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack ranked at the sixth slot on Netflix’s list of most-watched non-English shows worldwide for the week ending September 15. Headlined by Vijay Verma, the show registered 5.3 million watch hours.

The Telugu film, Mr Bachchan , which earlier released in theatres on August 15, also made it to the list of most-watched non-English films this week and ranked at the tenth slot on the platform.

Vikrant Massey’s new film Sector 36 is based on the horrific rapes, killings, and cannibalism which was unearthed near India’s Noida in 2006. While the premise and gory details of the real-life case hold potential for a gripping thriller, the film lacks the sensitivity required for the story. More often than not, Sector 36 feels too staged, and lacks coherence at times, but strong performances by both lead actors ensure you stay hooked on to it till the end. On the Netflix list, Sector 36 ranked below the South Korean comedy Officer Black Belt and the Brazilian crime movie Outlaw . All the three films landed online on September 13.

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack

Sinha’s IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack stars a stellar cast including Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah, Vijay Varma, Aravind Swamy, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Patralekhaa, Pooja Gaur, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Diya Mirza, Anupam Tripathi, Sushant Singh, Kanwaljeet Singh, Yashpal Sharma and Aditya Srivastava. Based on flight captain Devi Sharan’s book Flight Into Fear: The Captain's Story, the show is co-created by director Sinha and Trishant Srivastava. Sharan co-authored the book with Srinjoy Chowdhury.

IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack is based on the real-life hijack which took place in December 1999, after the Indian Airlines Flight IC 814 flew from Kathmandu (Nepal). It took eight days for the Indian authorities to free the passengers. The Indian government released three high-profile terrorists Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar, and Maulana Masood Azhar in exchange for the passengers. The terrorists involved in the hijack were later identified as members of the terrorist group Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HuM).

Harish Shankar has directed Mr Bachchan which is jointly produced by People Media Factory, T-Series Films, and Panorama Studios. Featuring Ravi Teja, Bhagyashri Bose and Jagathpathi Babu in lead roles, the film opened to scathing reviews about the plot. The film managed to score a little less than $2 million in a week at the box office.

Mr Bachchan is a remake of the 2018 Hindi film Raid . Directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, Raid is based on a real-life income tax raid from the 1980s. The film featured Devgn alongside Ileana D’Cruz, Saanand Verma and Saurabh Shukla. In 2020, a sequel to the film was also announced and is scheduled to hit theatres in 2025. Raid 2 will feature Riteish Deshmukh, and Vaani Kapoor with Devgn.
