Megastar Chiranjeevi’s new film, Waltair Veerayya, which created huge expectations with solid promotions, has hit the screens today worldwide. Let’s see whether the film lives up to the hype or not.

Waltair Veerayya (Chiranjeevi) is a fisherman in Waltair. He is approached by Seethapathi (Rajendra Prasad), a policeman, to help him in bringing back a notorious drug dealer Solomon Caesar (Bobby Simha) from Malaysia. Veerayya and his team go to Malaysia to kidnap Solomon. Veerayya comes to know about Solomon’s brother Michael Caesar (Prakash Raj). What happened next? What is the relationship between Veerayya and Michael? How is ACP Vikram Sagar (Ravi Teja) connected to Veerayya? What actually happened between them? Everything will be known by watching the main movie on the big screen.

Plus Points:

The story is a bit familiar to our audiences but what makes it intriguing is the screenplay, written by director Bobby. The helmer is well aware of how fans are wishing to watch their favourite actor in a mass movie. Bobby neatly showcased Chiranjeevi. Be it his look or attire, Chiranjeevi nailed it and he once again proved that he can mesmerise his fans and others with his outstanding comedy timing. Coming to emotional scenes, Chiranjeevi’s performance is top-notch.

One of the other interesting characters that need appreciation is Ravi Teja. He appears only for a limited time on the big screen but entertains with his finest performance. The second half becomes more engaging after his arrival. The scenes between Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja are enjoyable and they are a feast for their respective fans.

Shruti Haasan is a surprise package in this movie. She doesn’t only limit herself to being a part of songs but gets a scope to perform. She looks gorgeous in songs and her dance moves are also impressive. Another heroine Catherine Tresa is decent in her given role.

Bobby Simha justifies his role as the brother of a drug mafia leader. The rest of the cast including Prakash Raj, Rajendra Prasad, Vennela Kishore give their best.

The action sequences and the comedy scenes are good enough to engage audiences. Recreating some vintage scenes from Chiranjeevi’s movies is a good idea and they worked out well in the movie. A couple of songs, especially Poonakalu Loading, are good to watch on the big screen.

Minus Points:

Director Bobby, who is a big fan of Chiranjeevi, wanted to present the actor in the avatar his fans are wishing to watch. He succeeded in that but to make it happen, he chose a common story that has a few twists and turns. One can easily predict the proceedings in the second half. Bobby should have taken more care of the story. But, the neat screenplay covers up the little flaws in the narrative.

Prakash Raj’s character makes one feel routine. Bobby should have roped in another actor to make the character more interesting. The movie has many characters of no use. For example, there is no use in casting Pradeep Rawat and Nasser in the film. They have nothing much to perform in this movie.

A few unnecessary scenes in the movie could have been chopped off to make the movie a better one. Devi Sri Prasad’s score is also not up to the mark, especially in the scenes that give fans a high. The dubbing in the second half is bad.

Technical Aspects:

Bobby, the fanboy of Chiru, makes the film a decent one by writing a neat screenplay and dialogues. He delivers his best to make the film a treat to fans and of course he succeeded in that aspect. Camerawork by Arthur A Wilson is rich, especially in the action sequences.

Devi Sri Prasad should have done a better job by giving an outstanding score to elevate many mass scenes. Editing by Niranjan Devaramane is fine but some unnecessary scenes need to be trimmed off in the second half. The dubbing work is unimpressive in the latter half.

On the whole, Waltair Veerayya is a decent mass entertainer that has everything to please Chiru fans. Chiranjeevi nails his character and his comedy timing is an asset of the movie. It’s a feast for Chiru fans for sure. Ravi Teja is flawless in his role and he makes the film interesting with his finest performance. Bearing a few unnecessary scenes and the bland background score, you can enjoy the flick. Give it a watch this Sankranthi.

Waltair Veerayya movie review: Finally a Chiranjeevi film the audience will love despite its predictable story

Waltair veerayya movie review: chiranjeevi’s old-school charm salvages this predictable revenge drama. the telugu film also stars ravi teja, shruti haasan, bobby simhaa and rajendra prasad..

Ever since his return to acting in 2017 after a hiatus, Chiranjeevi has been struggling to find the right project that has really worked for him. Despite experimenting with films like Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and Godfather, audiences haven’t been able to see vintage Chiranjeevi in full form. Filmmaker Bobby Kolli gives audiences just what they’ve been expecting from Chiranjeevi for the longest time – a project that can entertain on all fronts and extract the best out of him. Waltair Veerayya is Bobby’s fan service to Chiranjeevi’s stardom and it has the star in his element, doing pretty much everything he’s expected to. Also read: Shruti Haasan slams report claiming she skipped Waltair Veerayya event due to 'mental problems'

Waltair Veerayya movie review: Chiranjeevi in a still from his latest film.

The film opens with the introduction of the infamous drug peddler Solomon Caesar (Bobby Simha) escaping from the clutches of RAW agents in a village in Andhra Pradesh. After wreaking havoc on the RAW agents and local policemen, Solomon flees to Malaysia. Rajendra Prasad, who plays a police inspector, is desperate to capture Solomon and bring him back to India to make him pay for his crimes. Unfortunately, Prasad has no support from anyone so he seeks the help of Waltair Veerayya (Chiranjeevi), a local fisherman who’s into smuggling, to help him bring Solomon back to India. In Malaysia, the tables are turned for Prasad, when Veerayya and Solomon join forces. What follows forms the rest of the story.

It is after a long time we see that Chiranjeevi truly had a blast playing a character. This is an uninhibited performance and he brings out all the old-school charm that made Chiranjeevi what he is today. The plot is as old as the mountain but what makes Waltair Veerayya somewhat refreshing is that the film doesn’t try to glorify Chiranjeevi’s character. Instead, it allows him to get under the skin of his character and have so much fun. The film really portrays Chiranjeevi in the most crowd-pleasing fashion in a really long time. There are some films you watch for the story and there are some you just watch hoping to see your favourite star shine amidst all other things. Waltair Veerayya is the kind of film that falls in the second category and it’s perfectly fine being that way as it lives up to the expectations.

The inclusion of Ravi Teja in a crucial role gives the film a lot of weightage. Scenes between Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja make for some of the best moments of the film. Bobby’s intention of delivering an out-and-out enjoyable commercial film with Waltair Veerayya works to a large extent, even when the predictability factor creeps in when you’re least expecting. The action sequences really serve as the film’s high moments and they deliver the thrills in a big way. These scenes do go overboard on multiple occasions but still work given the film’s massive scale.

'Waltair Veerayya' movie review: Enjoyable, even if familiar, masala outing

A masala film plunging into the story in its first scene, without wasting a single minute, is a rarity. When that happened in Waltair Veerayya , I felt a certain sense of assurance. Filmmaker Bobby Kolli sustains this assurance throughout and fulfills the promise of presenting Chiranjeevi in his vintage ‘90s glory.

From the original ‘Mega Star’ title card in the opening to a multitude of references to iconic moments from his filmography—the celebrated Muta Mestri step, a hilarious iteration of a rather serious monologue against bribery from Tagore, a reenactment of Abbani Theeyani Dhebba—the film is filled with many enjoyable moments that rely on Chiranjeevi’s legacy. But that’s not all.

Chiranjeevi’s Veerayya does break the fourth wall multiple times, but it doesn’t solely depend on these moments to keep the audience hooked. There’s an attempt to tell a story with coherence and offer closure to multiple arcs. For instance, we are told that Veerayya, the leader of a fishing community, is fighting a case in court. We don’t know what the case is about until the climax, but once it is revealed, it turns out to be something of immense importance to the story and character.

Likewise, early on, Veerayya’s vertigo issue is initially employed for the sake of humour and a trivial but harmless romantic angle featuring Shruti Haasan (who gets a fine role, packed with a surprise, after a catastrophic character in Veera Simha Reddy). However, his fear of heights not only is used as a conflict of sorts in the backstory but also culminates in a beautiful, emotional moment towards the end. Likewise, an element introduced in the tiny backstory that elucidates the cruelty of the film’s villain, Michael (Prakash Raj), becomes a part of Veerayya’s scheme to take on the antagonist.

Perhaps, I am just too happy with the cohesiveness on display after enduring Veera Simha Reddy less than 24 hours ago. Bobby Kolli is cautious about keeping the screenplay as tight and packed as possible and this makes Waltair Veerayya an engaging experience, where you know that one moment will definitely lead to another bigger moment. Perhaps the only forced choice in the screenplay is the placement of the dance number, ‘Neekemo Andham Ekkuva’ in the climax.

Like I said, Waltair Veerayya is a simple, self-aware film with a small storyline. When Soloman Ceaser (Simhaa) murders his entire police unit, a sincere but helpless cop (Rajendra Prasad) hires Veerayya to bring the bad guy to justice. But there’s more to the film and Veerayya, with Solomon being only the first level of his secret mission. Yes, it is a familiar revenge-driven plot; the second half and Ravi Teja’s character answer the ‘why’ which anyone can guess. But it is more about the ‘how’ here. Despite being someone who harbours nothing but distaste for the idea of ‘flashback in the second half’, I had a great time with Waltair Veerayya, thanks to the charming humour and strong emotional value it has to offer in these portions.

The way character dynamics between Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja play out—mostly for humour and then to land one effective, moving moment—invigorates the film big time in the second half. This is also where Bobby succeeds the most in using Chiranjeevi’s comic timing. It takes some time getting used to the dialect and the decidedly theatrical nature of the character, it quickly turns into an enjoyable fare. There’s also a recurring gag where Veerayya gets intimidated by Ravi Teja and these scenes are an absolute treat to behold. There’s something highly pleasurable in witnessing Chiranjeevi have fun with his character. Also, to see the hero—despite getting liberal doses of heroism—not being lionised by every character or exalted beyond the range of the character felt like a breath of fresh air.

Chiranjeevi plays a jolly-good character with a persistent smile in the film; that’s not new. But the film tries to tell you why he is always smiling. Is the reason strong and convincing enough? That’s subjective. But to see a masala film try to give a reason felt good. In the film’s banger intermission sequence (Telugu are so good at it!) Chiranjeevi rides an elephant. It’s a glorious mass moment, yes. But why does he get on the elephant in the first place? To stop the bad guy from escaping in the car. Reasoning, you see. And Waltair Veerayya, as a film, is well-made with an in-form DSP.

Waltair Veerayya Movie : What's Behind

Mega Star Chiranjeevi is aiming to strike gold during Sankranti turning Waltair Veerayya. The film's trailer and teaser reminded movie lovers of vintage Chiranjeevi of the 90s and the mass looks increased curiosity levels. The film's OTT rights have been bagged for a fancy sum by OTT giant Netflix. The film directed by Bobby Kolli is releasing in a spectacular manner on 13 January 2023. Let us find out whether Waltair Veerayya wowed movie lovers or not.

Waltair Veerayya Story Review

Waltair Veerayya's story is all about a fisherman in Visakhapatnam and the shocking developments in his life and how he deals with them in adverse situations. Veerayya (Chiranjeevi), is a fisherman in Jalaripeta, Visakhapatnam, and people including coast guards approach him if they cannot solve their problems. Veerayya in need of money to fight a court case decides to take up the assignment from CI Seethapathi (Rajendra Prasad).

What is the mission, what is the court case Veerayya is fighting, what it got to do with beautiful girl Atidhi (Shruti Haasan), ACP Vikram Sagar (Raviteja), Dr.Shalini (Catherine Tresa), drug lord Michael Ceaser (Prakash Raj) and his brother Solomon Ceaser (Bobby Simha) from the crux of the further developments?

Waltair Veerayya Movie Artists Review

Mega Star Chiranjeevi put in everything for the role and did full justice to the role of Waltair Veerayya. He excelled in the dances and one must compliment him for coming out with such unique and graceful moves at this age. He showed his comic timing and the dialogue delivery and accent attract all his fans. But for all his sincerity, Waltair Veerayya failed to set the screens on fire.

Shruti Haasan got a good role and she performed neatly. She looked glamorous on screen and danced with Chiranjeevi with ease. She also did a couple of stunts to surprise all her fans. Mass Raja Raviteja made a powerful impact with his terrific performance. Chiranjeevi and Ravitreja's screen presence give ample entertainment to movie lovers.

Catherine Tresa is ok in her role. She however looked odd, pale, and out of shape. Bobby Simha looked menacing in his role as an antagonist. Prakash Raj played his part in the role of a villain that offered nothing new to him. Sathyaraj got a blink-and-miss role and got nothing much to do. Others like Srinivas Reddy, and Vennela Kishore did not offer much entertainment. Urvashi Rautela danced well and looked good in the song Boss Party.

Waltair Veerayya Movie Technicians Review

Waltair Veerayya's story penned by Bobby is nothing new. As confessed by Bobby, the film's story is routine and he tried to include all commercial elements to elevate the heroism of Chiranjeevi. Bobby designed Chiranjeevi's character and look to show vintage Chiranjeevi of the 90s to the fans. In that aspect, Bobby emerged successful as Chiranjeevi looked massiest donning colored, checked shirts and also lungis, banians sporting a rugged rough, and tough mass look.

Bobby followed the same six songs, six fights template for the commercial entertainer and did not deviate from it. He showed Chiranjeevi from various angles, serious, messy, romantic, hilarious, and action. However, with the story turning out to be routine, within minutes into the first half, viewers just doze off. The first half interval bang is predictable and Bobby tried to induce Poonakalu. The entry of Raviteja in the second half livens up the rather dull proceedings.

Chiranjeevi and Raviteja's scenes elevated the film to another level, though routine as the scenes highlighted the rivalry, brotherhood, and emotions associated with it. Finally, the second half ends in a predictable manner. There is no one scene in the film that gave goosebumps to the fans. Stunt choreography did not pump any adrenaline. Arthur C Wilson's cinematography is just ok and VFX and Graphics are below average.

Devi Sri Prasad came up with mass beats for the songs. All the songs are well shot and the choreography is done taking into consideration Chiranjeevi's age. A few songs acted as speed breakers. Devi Sri Prasad's background music is good. He could have however elevated the scenes to another level by fine-tuning them. Niranjan Devaramane's editing is below average. There are many unnecessary and repetitive scenes that put off the viewers. Dialogues are routine and massy. Mythri Movie Makers' production values are good.

Waltair Veerayya Movie Rating Analysis

Altogether, Waltair Veerayya is a movie to watch Chiranjeevi in a vintage manner be it in the looks, style, mannerisms, dialogue delivery, and swag. This is what fans of Mega Star have been waiting to see Chiranjeevi on the screen for a long time. Though Bobby succeeded in showing Chiranjeevi the vintage look, he failed to convert it into a fire. In fact, silly scenes brought down the stature of Chiranjeevi. Viewers are heard saying the 80s-90s template is a strict NO. The story lacked the spark, the direction lacked the dynamism and the screenplay lacked sensibility. This turned the movie down. Overall, Waltair Veerayya made by the team is worthless Veerayya. Cinejosh goes with a 2.5 Rating Waltair Veerayya.

‘Waltair Veerayya’ movie review: A few nostalgia-evoking fun moments

Chiranjeevi and ravi teja’s camaraderie and a few vintage moments apart, the telugu film ‘waltair veerayya’ is a patchy fanboy tribute .

Updated - January 14, 2023 10:48 am IST

Published - January 13, 2023 03:07 pm IST

Sangeetha Devi Dundoo

Chiranjeevi and Shruti Haasan in ‘Waltair Veerayya’

In his new Telugu film Waltair Veerayya , directed by K S Ravindra aka Bobby Kolli, when Chiranjeevi says ‘records lo naa peru undadam kaadu, naa peru meede records untayi’ (it is not about my name being in the records, records are written in my name), amid loud cheers of course, it is an undeniable assertion of the sway he has had over mainstream Telugu cinema in his career of more than four decades. The writers — Bobby, Kona Venkat and Chakravarthy Reddy — dip generously into Chiranjeevi’s blockbusters of the past to evoke nostalgia. As an added bonus, their story has room for Ravi Teja — another star who has cemented his place in the masala genre. The writers’ fanboy tribute to these stars has a few fun segments, but the narrative that anchors it is patchy.

Chiranjeevi plays Waltair Veerayya, a fisherman in Vizag who smuggles luxury goods and wears bright, floral shirts. Even before we see him on screen, his voice sends a goon into a panic spin and makes him drop his lungi! The Indian Navy also turns to Veerayya to save coast guards because when everything fails, Veerayya aka ‘samundar ka sarkar’ aka ‘Bay of Bengal ka baap’ can help.

The film does not take itself seriously and hopes that the audience will not either. Thankfully there is a story, even if it is sketchy and trite. A wanted criminal, Solomon Ceaser (Bobby Simha), is temporarily sheltered in a village police station and it leads to a massacre. Sitapathi (Rajendra Prasad), a grieving officer, seeks Veerayya’s help to avenge the loss of his colleagues.

Waltair Veerayya

The first half of the 160-minute narrative is loaded with dialogues and dance moves to remind us of vintage Chiranjeevi. He shows that he’s still got the moves when he dances to Devi Sri Prasad’s ‘Boss Party’. There is also a throwback to Chiranjeevi and Sridevi’s ‘Abbani teeyani debba’ song from Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari when Chiranjeevi reimagines the dance with the much younger Shruti Haasan. Later in the film they also dance to ‘Nuvvu Sridevi aithe, nenu Chiranjeevi...’ These nostalgia moments are punctuated by jokes on contemporary cinema. A dialogue refers to heroes walking in late to attend audio functions flanked by bouncers.

The narrative retains this flaky and fun flavour when it moves to Malaysia so that Veerayya can take on Solomon Ceaser and his brother, Kaala (Prakash Raj).

If you are wondering where Shruti Haasan fits into the story, she gets a slightly better deal than she did in Veera Simha Reddy . As a duty manager in a star hotel, she gets to repeatedly hold Chiranjeevi’s hands in the elevator while assisting him to the 15th floor since he is scared of heights. Remember you aren’t supposed to take anything seriously in this film. A little later she also gets to perform a few slick action moves, never mind that it is cut short since she has to be ultimately saved by Chiranjeevi.

The film brings in Ravi Teja when it feels the need to lend some emotional depth to the story. As police officer Vikram Sagar, Ravi Teja plays the stepbrother to Chiranjeevi and gets enough bandwidth to evoke memories of his early film with Chiranjeevi, titled Annayya . They dance to the foot-tapping ‘Poonakalu loading’ that is choreographed to showcase their camaraderie and dancing skills. The face-off between the two actors is replete with crowd-pleasing references to their earlier hits.

Prakash Raj tries to roar in the character given to him but we have seen him in truly menacing parts before. The same goes for Bobby Simha whose villany seems like a put-on act.

Vennela Kishore makes an impression in a few scenes but there are plenty of others including Rajendra Prasad, Catherine Tresa and Sathyaraj who are saddled with forgettable parts.

Waltair Veerayya is fun for those who want to spot the plentiful references to Chiranjeevi’s earlier films like Khaidi and Gang Leader or revel in Ravi Teja and Chiranjeevi referencing each other’s hit dialogues during the face off. But if you are looking for a solid fanboy tribute that pays homage to Chiranjeevi’s stardom with an engaging story, this isn’t it.

Nostalgia is interesting when served right, not when it becomes a tool to prop up a pale narrative.

  • Chiranjeevi is seen as a smuggling fisherman in the film.
  • Ravi Teja plays the role of Vikram Sagar ACP.
  • The film reminds you of Chiranjeevi in his films in the 2000s.

Release Date: 13 Jan, 2023

Sankranti 2023 is set to be a box office battle in Telugu cinema between Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy and Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya. Director K S Ravindra aka Bobby Kolli’s Waltair Veerayya starring Megastar Chiranjeevi sees him bring Chiru back to form in a mass entertainer.

Bobby Kolli tries to make the two halves of the film as distinct as possible to ensure that Megastar Chiranjeevi fans are satisfied with the film. In the first half, we find the mass Boss Party song, plenty of comedy and light-hearted moments. The director sets up an exciting interval block post where we find plenty of action and the entrance of Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja. Low angle and slo-mo shots are used extensively in the action sequences to showcase both Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja’s star stature and give them that larger-than-life feel.

READ I Waltair Veerayya vs Veera Simha Reddy, Chiranjeevi film beats Balakrishna's in pre-release business

The story of the film is nothing new, but Bobby Kolli could have gone easy on the action scenes, especially in the second half, which is stretched. Technically, the movie is well-made and Devi Sri Prasad’s songs have been rocking the charts.

'Waltair Veerayya' Review: Megastar Chiranjeevi Is Enjoyable in This Masala Film

'waltair veerayya' starring chiranjeevi in the lead role, released in theatres on 13 january., waltair veerayya, 'waltair veerayya' review: megastar chiranjeevi is enjoyable in this masala film.

Sankranti (Pongal) is a special festival down south, and its celebration isn't complete without watching our favorite stars’ films. Just like how the Tamil films’ clash, Ajith’s Thunivu vs. Vijay’s Varisu , has created huge excitement, the Telugu fans are in for a treat with the battle between Balakrishna’s Veera Simha Reddy and Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya .

Megastar Chiranjeevi in Waltair Veerayya walks in like a boss—massy, funny, and full of action.

The story of the film revolves around Veerayya (Chiranjeevi), one of the most sought-after underworld dons. He is a nightmare to rouge thugs and the last resort to the country's armed forces for an unofficial help. A retired police officer seeks Veerayya’s help to avenge the deaths of his innocent colleagues.

Who is the mastermind behind the murders? Is Veerayya connected to the murderer even before he was tasked with catching hold of him? The film answers these questions through the rest of the story.

The plot was anything but new; the film also sticks to a mass masala commercial entertainer template that predominantly hypes up the hero through punch dialogues. However, the treatment of the screenplay seemed interesting. It reinvented the larger-than-life image of the megastar with a comical spin.

Chiranjeevi’s character was amusingly animated. Despite the hypermasculine buildups, he excels at being a vulnerable and not-so-serious guy. The audience crackles every time he jokes or when jokes are made at his expense. This deserves special appreciation, especially since Chiranjeevi is someone who’s got years of experience in his bucket. Truly a sport!

Ravi Teja delivers a convincing performance as Chiranjeevi’s half-brother. The film highlighted an interesting sibling rivalry that was layered with a real bond. It was a treat to watch the two stars squabble and bromance with each other. In addition, the two bankable actors, Bobby Simha and Prakash Raj , were excellent in their villainous roles.

We know romantic duets and peppy dance numbers are a staple for star-driven commercial flicks. And in Waltair Veerayya , Devi Sri Prasad’s music and background score were good. But how many songs do we still need to hinder the flow of the real story? Even if we choose to have many, shouldn't we be mindful about their placement? Do we really need to squeeze in a random song sequence at random intervals just because a lot of effort has gone into shooting it in exotic locations?

‘Thiruchitrambalam’ Review: Dhanush, Nithya Menen Deliver a Feel-good Drama

However, one cannot miss the glaring ironies in the movie. While some were amusing, some were disturbing.

Throughout the film, Chiranjeevi has been referred to as the King of the Sea, the Father of the Bay of Bengal, and the Epitome of Mass. However, the film doesn’t take itself too seriously and takes a dig at rhyming build-up dialogues in a humorous jail sequence.

However, it contradicts how smoking is perceived. In many instances, one is bound to feel that smoking is glorified every time Veerayya catches a beedi in style; however, in one passably funny scene, he casually says that smoking is injurious to health.

Though Waltair Veerayya feels like old wine in a new bottle, it has interesting elements infused in its narration.

Waltair Veerayya celebrates Chiranjeevi’s four-decade-long legacy with enjoyable characterization. It creates moments of intrigue and brilliant closures near the end.

It was fascinating to discover the coherence in the narration, whether it was the knot about Veerayya's vertigo problem and how he combats it in accordance with the story or the case he fights coming from a fisherman community and the revelation of the significance it holds to the protagonist's desire.

Waltair Veerayya is running in cinemas now.

Waltair Veerayya Review : Poonakalu paused !

waltair veerayya

Waltair veerayya Review

Telugu360 Rating : 2.25/5

Story: Set in Vizag port, Veerayya (Chiru) and Kaala (Prakashraj) are friends and business partners. Kaala turns out to be evil, cheats on Veerayya, and runs away to Malaysia. The rest of the story revolves around Veerayya’s journey to Malaysia to teach Kaala a lesson.

Veerayya’s character makes an entry with a shabby graphics episode where he rescues kidnapped Indian Naval Officers. Now, why does the Indian Army need help from a fisherman – chart this away as cinematic liberty. Moving on Veerayya is in Malaysia on assignment to capture the criminal Solomon (Bobby Simha) – who is also Kaala’s brother. While is scope for comedy here, it does appear to be very forced and does nothing to help. Chiranjeevi tried hard – a few scenes hit, and the rest disappear into oblivion. The interval block is impressive. The first half has a few elements that old-school Chiranjeevi fans might like.

The second half opens with a back story. The brothers (Chinarjeevi as fisherman and Raviteja as ACP) childhood memories, and clashes resulting in the present-day rivalry are revealed. Kaala’s betrayal of framing Veerayya as the culprit is pretty emotional.

This is a script with 0 high moments. It completely banks on senior hero Chiranjeevi’s old-school antics. It’s become a trend to do imitations of viral media in mainstream cinema, but designing a cheap skit like ‘Jambalakidi Jaaru Mithai’ on a big hero like Chiranjeevi is a very poor decision. The climax is clueless with endless mafia gang gun fights.

The Boss Party song has only one decent step that was already shown in trailers. Poonakalu Loading song is mass appealing.

Performances:

Megastar Chiranjeevi tried his best to pull off this mediocre script. While he is good at his elements, it is high time to quit his 40’s age body language. Raviteja got a good role, and his performance is good. Shruti Haasan and Catherine got themselves into filler roles. Bobby Simha and Prakash Raj as villains are okay.

Technical :

Devisri Prasad did a reasonably good job with his songs but the background score isn’t impressive. The budget is not visible on the screen except for the Boss Party song. VFX work is not to the mark.

Positives :

· Megastar · Two Songs

Negatives :

· Very bland storytelling · Mediocre action sequences · No high moments

Waltair Veerayya trying to fulfill his sibling’s dreams is the film’s story. The movie fails to take off from the beginning. It has a very bland first half and keeps going downhill from there. Strictly for old-school Chiranjeevi fans.

Waltair Veerayya Movie Review: An enjoyable, even if familiar, masala outing

Rating: ( 3 / 5).

From the original ‘Mega Star’ title card in the opening to a multitude of references to iconic moments from his filmography—the celebrated  Muta Mestri  step, a hilarious iteration of a rather serious monologue against bribery from  Tagore , a reenactment of Abbani Theeyani Dhebba —the film is filled with many enjoyable moments that rely on Chiranjeevi's legacy. But that's not all.

Cast: Chiranjeevi, Ravi Teja, Prakash Raj, Simhaa Shruti Haasan

Director: Bobby Kolli

Chiranjeevi’s Veerayya does break the fourth wall multiple times, but it doesn’t solely depend on these moments to keep the audience hooked. There’s an attempt to tell a story with coherence and offer closure to multiple arcs. For instance, we are told that Veerayya, the leader of a fishing community, is fighting a case in court. We don’t know what the case is about until the climax, but once it is revealed, it turns out to be something of immense importance to the story and character. Likewise, early on, Veerayya’s vertigo issue is initially employed for the sake of humour and a trivial but harmless romantic angle featuring Shruti Haasan (who gets a fine role, packed with a surprise, after a catastrophic character in  Veera Simha Reddy ).

In the film's banger intermission sequence (how are Telugu filmmakers so good at it?) Chiranjeevi rides an elephant. It's a glorious mass moment, yes. But why does he get on the elephant in the first place? To stop the bad guy from escaping in the car. Reasoning, you see. And Waltair Veerayya , as a film, is well-made with an in-form DSP strongly complementing the mass moments.

Films like Waltair Veerayya are reminders that masala cinema, when done neatly, will always be a treat.

Waltair Veerayya Review: Poonakalu Missing

Waltair Veerayya Review: Poonakalu Missing

Movie: Waltair Veerayya Rating: 2.25/5 Banner: Mythri Movie Makers Cast: Chiranjeevi, Ravi Teja, Shruti Haasan, Catherine Tresa, Prakash Raj, Bobby Simha, Rajendra Prasad, Sathya Raj, Srinivasa Reddy, Vennela Kishore, Saptagiri, Nasser, and others Screenplay: Kona Venkat, K Chakravarthy Music: Devi Sri Prasad Cinematographer: Arthur Wilson Editing: Niranjan Devaramane Production Designer: A.S. Prakash Fights: Ram-Laxman, Peter Hein Producers: Naveen Yerneni and Ravi Shankar Yalamanchili Story, Dialogues & Direction: Bobby Kolli Release Date: Jan 13, 2023

Nearly after two decades, megastar Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja have worked together. The uniqueness of "Waltair Veerayya" wasn't limited to the duo coming together. Since the movie's launch, people have been talking about it, and the hashtag "Poonakalu Loading" has piqued their interest. The songs and the trailer have helped build anticipation.

Find out if this movie actually delivers or not.

Story: Solomon Caesar (Bobby), a criminal, kills numerous police officers before escaping to Malaysia. When an upright police officer decides to hire a private individual to extradite Caesar, he learns about Waltair Veerayya's (Chiranjeevi) skills in providing such services. Veerayya, who needs money to win a case, agrees to do the job in exchange for a payment of Rs. 25 lakhs.

After arriving in Malaysia, Veerayya and the policeman devise a strategy to capture Solomon Caesar. While they're at it, Indian RAW agents have started an undercover operation to apprehend the same criminal, who is getting the aid of his drug-trafficking brother Michael Solomon (Prakash Raj).

Veerayya befriends one of the RAW officers(Shruti Haasan). Will Solomon be brought to India by Veerayya? Does his decision to take on this operation stem from something other than money?

Artistes’ Performances: The characterization and acting style of megastar Chiranjeevi takes us back to his earlier films like "Mutha Mestri." His fans can expect a genuine throwback experience from his modulations, playful demeanour, dances, and general attire. Even though Chiranjeevi does his best to entertain, the padding was not supportive. Those vintage comedy sequences aren't funny at all.

Sprucing up the proceedings is the presence of Ravi Teja. The "Poonakalu Loading" filmed on Ravi Teja and Chiranjeevi is main highlight. Ravi Teja provides some verve to story.

In the role of the main villain, Prakash Raj gives a performance that is quite routine. Bobby Simha's persona is like a lot of noise but no action.

In addition to Chiranjeevi and Ravi Teja, the film features a slew of other well-known actors in minor roles. The presence of Rajendra Prasad, Vennela Kishore, Subbaraj, Pradeep Rawat, and John Vijay hardly make a difference.

Technical Excellence: The soundtrack is a major selling point for the film. Songs by Devi Sri Prasad are more enjoyable to watch than they are to listen to. They are depicted in colourful manner. "Sridevi Chiranjeevi" and "Poonakalu Loading" are noteworthy.

The camerawork of Arthur Wilson is fantastic. The frames are rich. The production values are grand. The movie moves at a snail's pace. The script and dialogue are nothing special.

Highlights: Megastar Chiranjeevi Two songs Interval bang

Drawback: Weak story Formulaic screenplay Old school comedy No thrilling moments

Analysis The hashtag #PoonakaluLoading was created by the film's director Bobby and has been used to promote "Waltair Veerayya" from the beginning of the movie's release. He meant that his narration and the ideas it contained would send fans into a frenzy. However, "Poonakam" (Vibrational energy) is noticeably absent from the movie.

It seems like "Waltair Veerayya" is more of an attempt to introduce modern viewers to Chiranjeevi's classic acting style.

The concept may have had promise, but director Bobby falls short in the film's actual presentation. The antics that Chiranjeevi used to perform no longer have any effect. Throughout the first act, the director has mostly relied on Chiranjeevi's comedic expressions and moments.

To ask for assistance of a commoner in extraditing a criminal makes no sense on the part of law enforcement. Regardless, things get worse during the parts set in Malaysia, where Chiranjeevi and his gang try to kidnap Bobby Simha. They don't produce the desired result.

The film finds its rhythm only during the explosive interval block. In the first half, this is the only section that works quite well. As soon as Ravi Teja and his story enter the picture, the tone changes. This part of the second half has some interesting moments. One of the best parts of the movie is the touching scene with Ravi Teja and Chiranjeevi, who play brothers.

In the film, Chiranjeevi plays a man who suffers from vertigo. This aspect is used cleverly. However, such clever writing is found sporadically, and the rest of it is banal.

The film runs at snail's pace and features dated scenes. The drunken comedy scene featuring Sathya Raj and Chiranjeevi is one example of how bad the writing is. This is all very formulaic. Another instance of bad writing is found in the climax.

Although the film benefits from catchy tunes, Chiranjeevi's entertaining performance, and a few good scenes, its overall weak writing and dated plot are its undoing. In addition, the film lacks the high points that audiences of this type of film would expect.

Overall, "Waltair Veerayya" has only few enjoyable moments and suffers from an antiquated screenplay and a dearth of interesting scenes. This doesn't excite regular audiences, aside from mega fans who want to see vintage Chiranjeevi moments.

Bottom line: Vintage Boss!

Waltair Veerayya is yet another age-old story that completely failed to utilize the strengths and energy of Chiru and Raviteja. It is high time that our filmmakers give up on standard format subjects in the name of commercial formula. Overall, Waltair Veerayya has some comedy that worked, a few songs that look good and that is all, leaving it as an average fare.

The first half of Waltair Veerayya primarily focuses on entertainment to keep viewers interested. Unfortunately, everything fails€”aside from a few songs. The problem is in the writing. From this point on, something remarkable has to happen to turn things around, but unhappily, the film veers off course.

Overall, Waltair Veerayya has moments that provide fun here and there, and there is a bit of drama and over the top action, as well. But, it fails to click as a whole and leaves one scratching the head in disappointment. If you love Chiranjeevi, try it, but keep the expectations at the least.

Ratings: 2.75/5  Review By: TeluguBulletin Site:TeluguBulletin

Waltair Veerayya is an OK entertainer with right mix of comedy and action. First half is a breeze with comedy/action and the later half is bit routine and lengthy towards the end but overall it has enough commercial elements to make it a potential BO winner this sankranti.

Vedaa Review: Sharvari Acts Amazingly, John Abraham Flexes Muscles, But The Movie Is Stretched & Boring

Vedaa Review Sharvari And John Are Good But

Vedaa Review: After Pathaan, John Abraham is once again back on the big screens with an action film. This time he is accompanied by Sharvari who is already having a great 2024 (Munjya & Maharaj). The teaser and trailer of Nikkhil Advani's Vedaa had grabbed our attention, and because of the CBFC, the movie had also made it to the headlines. Now, finally, it is all set to release tomorrow (15th August), clashing with Stree 2 and Khel Khel Mein. So, is Vedaa worth your time and money? Find out in our review below...

The movie revolves around Vedaa (Sharvari) who is from a lower caste and stays in Barmer, Rajasthan. There all the decisions are taken by Pradhan (Abhishek Banerjee) and while he tries to show that he cares about everyone, he and his family are not happy to see the lower caste people coming forward. Abhimanyu (John Abraham), court-martialed officer, comes to Barmer and starts working in a college where Vedaa is studying. Soon, a situation takes place where Vedaa's family gets into trouble and she has to run away. Abhimanyu becomes her protector, and what happens next, forms the rest of the story...

The basic concept of Vedaa is very good. It showcases about how still there's a caste system in our country and how upper caste people treat the lower caste. The first half has some scenes that are very hard-hitting, but the slow pace is a hurdle here. In the second half also the movie looks very stretched. There are long scenes that after a point will bore you. The last 30 minutes, which should have been the highlight of the movie, tests your patience.

Nikkhil Advani's narration is good in bits and parts, and the action sequences have been choreographed well. However, once again, even they are quite long. The runtime of the film is 150 minutes, but still, it feels very stretched.

Vedaa Actors' Performance

Vedaa belongs to Sharvari. She has given an excellent performance and clearly a tough contender to win Best Actress awards next year. We can clearly say that she is the saving grace of this film. John Abraham's performance is good; he speaks less, emotes with his eyes and, of course, flexes his mucles in action sequences, and we love that about him.

Abhishek Banerjee is a surprise. His villainous act will surely grab your attention. Kshitij Chauhan also leaves a mark. A special mention to veteran actor Ashish Vidyarthi, he has been given some of the best dialogues, and he performs well.

Vedaa Music

Apart from Holiyaan, no other songs leave a mark. The track Mummy Ji fails to impress, and we surely miss Nora Fatehi here. The background score is also too loud and doesn't make an impact on the film.

Vedaa Review Final Verdict

Overall, Vedaa had a very good concept, but the slow pace and the long scenes spoiled the movie and made it boring. Watch it only if you are a Sharvari or John Abraham fan!

P.S. We would have given this film 2 stars, but an extra half star just for Sharvari's fantastic act.
