Shivaji university PhD admissions 2023-24 are going to begin soon. The notification for the application process will be released in June 2023. The admission will be based on the PhD entrance exam and the interview round conducted by the university. The PhD entrance exam application will tentatively be open by July 2023. The exam will be conducted by August/September 2023. The results will be announced by the last week of October 2023 tentatively.

Shivaji university PhD program is a 3-year full-time program. The university offers PhD programs in 120 specializations. All admissions will be processed through the (Department Research Committee/Central Research Committee). For candidate selection, a weightage of 70% will be given to the entrance test and 30% to performance in the interview/viva-voce. Shivaji University Ph.D Eligibility

Duration: 2 years

Eligibility: Candidates are required to have done a Master’s degree in arts/commerce or M.Sc./B.Tech in relevant specialization from any recognized University to be eligible for the M.Phil. Program.

Specializations:

Shivaji University Ph.D Admission Process 2022

• Selection to Ph.D. and M.Phil courses are made on the basis of Entrance test followed by an interview. The question paper of Entrance test will contain 50 MCQs of 2 marks each.  The duration of the exam will be of one and half hour.
• Examination is conducted in both online and offline mode. The pattern for the entrance test will be strictly based on the syllabus of the post graduation program.
• On the basis of this entrance test, a merit list will be prepared for conducting the interview. In interview, candidates are required to discuss the area of research.
• A final merit list will be prepared for selection on the basis of marks scored in the qualifying exam, entrance test and interview. 50% marks of qualifying exam, 40% marks of entrance test and 10% of the interview will be considered to form a merit list for selecting candidates.
• Candidates who have qualified GATE /UGC-CSIR-NET / SLET / SET  /P.G.D.T.E./ BET/GPAT are exempted from appearing in the entrance test and they only need to appear in the interview.
• Candidates who want to do research in engineering and technology, entrance test pattern for them will be based on GATE syllabus.

Scholarships:

• Apart from the different schemes for scholarships provided by the government authorities, University has its own provision to provide scholarship to deserving candidates. 
• University releases about 500 scholarships of INR 5000 and INR 10000 which is given to deserving candidates enrolled with the University under the scheme of Shivaji University Merit Scholarship Scheme (SUMS).

How To Apply?

• Application forms for M.Phill and Ph.D programs are available in online mode only.
• Entrance examination fee for each subject is INR 200 which is to be submitted in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of Finance and Accounts Officer, Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
• Filled in application form along with the Demand Draft is to be submitted to the concerned department either by post/courier or by person.
• Candidates can also avail the copy of course directory by paying a sum of INR 100 to the University in form of cash or Demand Draft drawn in favour of Finance and Accounts Officer, Shivaji University, Kolhapur.
• If there are less than 10 candidates allotted to an examination center then that center is subjected to cancellation and information regarding this will be made available on the University website.
• Applications are accepted after the last date of submission with a late fee of INR 100.
• There is also a provision to the accepted application form with a super late fee of INR 500.

• Copy of professional experience and published research work wherever necessary.

If the course directory is demanded through post then a sum of INR 30 extra is to be paid by the candidates.

Ques. Is conversion of M.Phil to PhD possible at Shivaji University?

Ans. A candidate who is admitted to M.Phil. Programme can apply for conversion of M.Phil. admission into Ph.D. 

• The candidate will have to clear the Ph.D. entrance examination as per rules. The DRC( Department research committee ) /CRC ( Central Research Committee) will go through all the details and will process the said case for conversion of M.Phil. into Ph.D.
• The candidate shall resubmit the synopsis for Ph.D. taking into account the minimum duration of one year for M.Phil. Program, such candidates shall be allowed to submit Ph.D. thesis after completion of two years duration from the date of approval to conversion of M.Phil. into PhD.
• The remaining procedure will be carried out as per the rules prescribed for Ph.D. after conversion of M.Phil. into Ph.D.

Ques. What is the process to get degree transcripts from Shivaji University, Kolhapur?

Ans. The process to get degree transcripts at Shivaji University is as follows:

• Firstly, fill up the transcript form. 
• Attach all marksheets of your degree according to semester.
• Submit the transcript from along with all marksheets of your degree 
• A processing fee is to be paid. 
• You will receive the transcript within 1–2 months.

Ques. Can we change the title of our research product in between the course?

Ans. If the candidate wants to change the title he/she shall submit an application recommended by the Research Guide/ Research Supervisor, through the concerned Head of the Department of University Department / the Chairman. The Research and Recognition Committee concerned may approve such changes on recommendation of the Research Advisory Committee.

Ques. Is there an entrance test for P.hD and MPhil courses?

Ans. Yes, there is an entrance test. The Entrance Test shall consist of 50% questions based on Research Methodology and 50% shall be subject specific

Ques. What is the financial assistance scheme for students?

Ans. Shivaji University has ventured to introduce a scheme of Golden Jubilee Research Fellowship for Research Students from 2012-2013 in order to provide financial support. The tenure of the Golden Jubilee Research Fellowship will be for 2 years. The value of fellowship will be INR 10,000 along with the Contingency grant of INR 10,000 p.a.

Shivaji University PhD Admission 2023-24 Eligibility Criteria

• A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by Shivaji University or by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
• A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/VJNT/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled/ Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
• Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/VJNT/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled/ Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
• Candidates who have completed the M.Phil. programme of Shivaji University, Kolhapur or any other Statutory University or Degree considered equivalent to M.Phil. Degree of an Indian institution with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of educational institutions, shall be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. programme. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/VJNT/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled/ Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.

Selection Process

• All admissions for Ph.D. programmes shall be through a Common Entrance Test and Interview conducted by Shivaji University, Kolhapur, except foreign candidates.
• Foreign candidates complying the eligibility criteria (for those who have obtained Master’s Degree from foreign Universities OR eligible Foreign National) are exempted from appearing for entrance test, however, they should appear for Interview in person / online.
• All admissions shall be processed through the Research Advisory Committee. For selection of a candidate, a weightage of 70% to the entrance test and 30% to the performance in interview shall be given.

Shivaji University PhD Entrance Test 2023

• An Entrance Test shall be a qualifying test for admission to Ph.D. programme. The Entrance Test will be of 100 marks (50 questions of two marks each with multiple choices).
• Students who have secured 50% marks in the entrance test are eligible to be called for the interview. Provided that a relaxation of 5% of marks (from 50% to 45%) shall be allowed for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/VJ-NT (Non- Creamy layers)/OBC (Non- Creamy layers)/EWS / Differently- abled category in the entrance examination.
• Negative scheme of marking shall not be applicable.
• The duration for the examination will be two hours.
• The Entrance Test shall consist of 50% questions based on Research Methodology and 50% shall be subject specific. The Entrance Test shall be conducted at the centre(s) to be notified in advance. The details of syllabus for the Entrance Test shall be made available on University Website.

• The quota for admission shall be 90% for Home University students and 10% for other university students. The candidate who has obtained the qualifying degree of Shivaji University (for admission to Ph.D. programme) shall be treated as Home University student.

Shivaji University is a public university founded in 1962 and named after the great Maratha warrior and founder of the Maratha empire, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. As per the Shivaji University placement reports 2022, about 360 students were placed with a median salary of Rs 4 LPA. Students who opted for 1-year PG courses, were offered a median salary of Rs 2.93 LPA during the Shivaji University placement drive. For 2 year PG programmes, 1059 students were successfully placed out of 2083, and were offered a median salary of Rs 1.40 LPA during the Shivaji University placements. Categories of students

• Full-Time Students: Applicants who join full-time programs are required to devote full time on campus for Ph.D. Some candidates may be offered research/teaching/project assistantship. Those candidates are required to assist in teaching/laboratories under the guidance of a mentor.
• Part-Time Students: Applicants will be admitted under this category who are working in organizations situated in close vicinity of the University.
• Sponsored Students: Applicants will be admitted under this category who are employees of Organizations/Industries having collaborations with the university.

Eligibility for admission

• Candidate must have passed Master’s Degree with a minimum of 55% marks in which he/she intends to pursue the course of this University or any other University/Institute recognized as equivalent by this University.
• Candidate has to clear the (Entrance Examination) who are seeking admission to the Doctoral program of the University. The Entrance Examination is to be conducted annually by the University.
• The candidates are exempted from appearing the Entrance Examination who have qualified the UGCCSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/UGC-NET (including JRF)/GATE/teacher fellowship holder or have passed the M.Phil program.
• For getting the selection for admission candidates have to appear a viva-voce/ interview. 
• A candidate may also be considered for admission to the Ph.D. program who have B.E./B.Tech Degree with a valid JRF-GATE score.
• The applicants shall have to take admission for a Six-Month Course Work who are eligible.
• M. Phil degree holders are exempted from the course work.

Selection Process

• Candidates will be selected on the base of overall performance in Entrance Examination, Post Graduate degree, Personal Interview, and facilities available.
• Candidates who have sponsored projects and have qualified CSIR/UGC NET, they will be given preference.
• Written Entrance Test: Qualifying marks for entrance tests are 50%. The syllabus of the Entrance Test shall consist of 50% shall be subject-specific and 50% of research methodology. Candidates may be exempted from the entrance test who have qualified the UGC/GPAT/GATE/SLET/CSIR (JRF)/NET/M.Phil. or any other national level test after graduation. The interview is compulsory for all applicants
• Personal Interview: Candidates will be selected for a Personal interview who clears the written entrance examination.

Entrance Test Fee 

• For Open Category 850/- (Non-Refundable)
• For Reserved Category 600/-(Non-Refundable)
• The fee is Non-Refundable.
• Fee can be paid through the Online Payment Gateway facility.
• Candidate can choose more than one subject for the entrance test however he has to submit the fee separately for each subject and has to appear for the entrance test of each subject.

Entrance Test Details

• The entrance will have 50 questions of two marks each with multiple choices. 
• The total marks for the entrance test will be 100 marks.
• 50% marks are qualifying marks for the entrance test. 
• 5% relaxation of marks will be given to SC/ST/VJ-NT/OBC (Non- Creamy layers)/ SEBC(Non-Creamy layers)/EWS/ Differently- abled category.
• No negative marking in the entrance test.
• 50% of questions are based on research methodology and 50% shall be subject-specific.
• The duration for the Entrance Test will be for two hours.
• The quota for admission shall be 10% for other university students and 90% for Home University students.
