మహాత్మా గాంధీ జీవిత చరిత్ర – Mahatma Gandhi biography in Telugu

మోహన్ దాస్ కరంచంద్ గాంధీజీ ఒక అహింస వాది, భారత దేశానికి స్వాతంత్రం ఇప్పించటంలో ముఖ్యపాత్రను పోషించారు . గుజరాత్ లోని ఒక హిందూ ఫ్యామిలీ లో జన్మించి మంచి చదువు చదివి ఒక లాయర్ అయ్యారు. 

న్యాయవాది గా కెరీర్ ను ముందుగా కొనసాగించటానికి సౌత్ ఆఫ్రికా వెళ్లారు. అక్కడ 21 సంవత్సరాలు గడిపి ఇండియా కి 1915 వ సంవత్సరంలో తిరిగి వచ్చారు. 

భారతదేశంలో బ్రిటిష్ ప్రభుత్వం వల్ల చాలా మంది పడుతున్న భాధలు మరియు అన్యాయనాలను చూసి ఒక అహింస ఉద్యమాన్ని ప్రారంభించారు.

గాంధీ గారు భారతదేశం వచ్చాక  ఒక సాధారణమైన జీవితాన్ని గడపటం ప్రారంభించారు, వేసుకునే బట్టలలో మరియు తినే ఆహారం లో కూడా ఒక పేదవారి మాదిరిగా మార్చుకున్నారు.

బ్రిటిష్ ప్రభుత్వానికి వ్యతిరేకంగా ఉద్యమాలు మరియు నిరాహార దీక్షలు చేసి అహింస మార్గంలో నడిచి భారతదేశానికి స్వాతంత్య్రాన్ని రావటంలో చాలా కృషి చేశారు. 

గాంధీజీ మతపర విద్వేషాలకు కూడా వ్యతిరేకంగా ఉండేవారు. కానీ కొంత మంది ఈ విషయాన్ని ఇంకోవిదంగా తీసుకున్నారు, గాంధీజీ పాకిస్తాన్ కు సహాయం చేస్తున్నారని హిందూ జాతీయ వాది అయిన నాథురాం గాడ్ సే 30 జనవరి 1948 వ సంవత్సరంలో కాల్చి చంపేశారు.

 బాల్యం : 

గాంధీజీ అసలు పేరు మోహన్ దాస్ కరంచంద్ గాంధీ, గాంధీజీ 2 అక్టోబర్ 1869 వ సంవత్సరంలో గుజరాత్ లోని పోరు బందర్ పట్టణంలో కరంచంద్ గాంధీ మరియు పుత్లి బాయ్ గాంధీ అనే దంపతులకు జన్మించారు. గాంధీజీ నాన్న గారు పోరు బందర్ రాష్ట్రానికి దివాన్ గా ఉండేవారు.

గాంధీజి గారి అమ్మ నాన్న లు చాలా సాంప్రదాయ కుటుంబం,  గాంధీజీ గారు తమ తల్లి యొక్క దైవ్యరాధనను మరియు పవిత్రతను చూసి చాలా ప్రభావితులు అయ్యారు.  

గాంధీజీ చిన్నపాటి నుంచే పెద్దగా ఎవరితో మాట్లాడేవారు కాదు, మాట్లాడటానికి కూడా సిగ్గుపడేవారు. తన సమయాన్ని ఎక్కువగా బుక్కు ల తోనే గడిపేవారు.    

చదువు : 

గాంధీజీ లా చదువు కోసం లండన్ వెళ్లాలని నిర్ణయించుకున్నారు. గాంధీజీ తల్లి మరియు భార్య ఇంటి నుంచి ఇంత దూరం లండన్ వెళ్లొద్దు అని కోరారు. 

లండన్ వెళ్లి భారత దేశం యొక్క సభ్యత ను మరిచి పాశ్చాత్య సభ్యతకు అలవాటు పడతారని భయపడేవారు. గాంధీజీ శాఖాహారి కావటం వల్ల అక్కడికి వెళ్లి మాంసాన్ని తింటారేమో అని భయపడేవారు.       

గాంధీజీ మాత్రం తాను పై చదువుల కోసం వెళుతున్నానని మద్యం, మాంసం, అమ్మాయిల జోలికి వెళ్ళను అని హామీ ఇచ్చారు.   

సౌత్ ఆఫ్రికా :

1888 సంవత్సరంలో పోరు బందర్ నుంచి ముంబై కి వెళ్లి అక్కడి నుంచి లండన్ కి వెళ్ళటం జరిగింది.  లండన్ లోని యూనివర్సిటీ కాలేజీ లండన్ లో అడ్మిషన్ తీసుకున్నారు. అక్కడికి వెళ్లిన తరవాత తన సిగ్గు పడే స్వభావాన్ని మెల్లి మెల్లిగా విడిచారు మరియు జనాల ముందు మాట్లాడటం ప్రారంభించారు.       

ఇండియా వచ్చిన తరవాత న్యాయవాదిగా కొన్ని కేసులు వాధించారు కానీ అంతగా ఆశించిన ఫలితాలు లభించలేదు. 

1893 వ సంవత్సరంలో ఒక ముస్లిం వ్యాపారి తన ఒక సౌత్ ఆఫ్రికా లో ఉండే  బంధువు యొక్క వ్యాపారం కోసం గాంధీజీ ను న్యాయవాది గా ఉండాలని కోరారు. ఆ వ్యాపారి గాంధీజీ కి మంచి మొత్తంలో డబ్బు కూడా ఇవ్వటానికి సిద్ధం అయ్యారు.  

1893 సంవత్సరంలో గాంధీజీ సౌత్ ఆఫ్రికా కు వెళ్లారు, అక్కడ 21 సంవత్సరాలు గడిపారు. సౌత్ ఆఫ్రికా లో గాంధీజి ని చాలా జాత్యహంకారానికి గురి అయ్యారు.  

గాంధీజీ ఇండియా వారు కావటం తో చాలా వివక్షతను ఎదుర్కొన్నారు. అక్కడి జాతీయులతో కూర్చోవటం మరియు ట్రైన్ లో ప్రయాణించటాన్ని అనుమతించే వారు కాదు.

గాంధీజీ అక్కడ ఉన్నప్ప్పుడు తమ హక్కుల కోసం పోరాడారు మరియు తమ రాజకీయ అభిప్రాయాలను మెరుగుపరుచుకున్నారు.    

స్వాతంత్ర పోరాటం:

సౌత్ ఆఫ్రికా నుంచి వచ్చిన తరవాత గాంధీజీ ఇండియన్ నేషనల్ కాంగ్రెస్ లో చేరారు. గాంధీజీ గారు స్వాతంత్రం కోసం పలు ఉద్యమాలలో పాల్గొన్నారు.    

గాంధీజీ గారి అహింస మార్గం వల్ల చివరకి భారత దేశానికి స్వాతంత్రం వచ్చింది. 

మరణం : 

30 జనవరి 1948 సంవత్సరంలో బిర్లాహౌస్ గార్డెన్ నుంచి ఒక మీటింగ్ కి వెళుతుండగా ఒక హిందూ జాతీయ వాది అయిన నాథురాం గాడ్ సే గన్ ద్వారా 3 రౌండ్లు కాల్పులు జరిపి చంపేశారు.

గాంధీ జీవిత చరిత్ర (Gandhi Life Story in Telugu): అక్టోబర్ 2న మహాత్మా గాంధీ జయంతి. ఆ రోజున జాతీయ సెలవుదినంగా పాటించడం ఆనవాయితీగా వస్తుంది. ఈ సందర్భంగా అక్టోబర్ 02న దేశ ప్రజలు మహాత్మునికి నివాళులు అర్పించి ఆయన సేవలను స్మరించుకుంటుంటారు.  బ్రిటీష్ వలస పాలన నుండి భారతదేశానికి స్వతంత్రం అందించడానికి గాంధీజీ చేసిన కృషికి గుర్తు చేసుకుంటారు. గాంధీ జయంతి రోజున  పాఠశాలల్లో సేవా కార్యక్రమాలు, ప్రత్యేక సమావేశాలు, విద్యా కార్యక్రమాలను నిర్వహించడం జరుగుతుంది.  ఈ సందర్భంగా ప్రతి విద్యార్థి తెలుసుకోవలసిన మహాత్మా గాంధీ జీవిత పాఠాలు (Gandhi Life Story in Telugu) ఇక్కడ అందజేశాం.

గాంధీ జయంతి 2023: మహాత్మా గాంధీ జీవిత పాఠాలు (Gandhi Jayanti 2023: Life Lessons of Mahatma Gandhi)

మహాత్మా గాంధీ జీవితం నుంచివిద్యార్థులు నేర్చుకోగల కొన్ని ముఖ్యమైన విషయాలు ఈ దిగువున అందజేశాం.

ఆత్మ విశ్వాసం: మనల్ని మనం నమ్మాలి. సమాజం మొత్తం మనకు వ్యతిరేకంగా నిలబడినా, మనం చేసే పనిని నమ్మాలి. దానిని అనుసరించాలి. మనం సరైన దారిలో ఉంటే సమాజం చేతులు కలుపుతుంది. ఇదే విషయాన్ని గాంధీజి 'మొదట వారు మిమ్మల్ని విస్మరిస్తారు, తర్వాత వారు మిమ్మల్ని చూసి నవ్వుతారు, ఆపై వారు మీతో పోరాడతారు. అనే ఒక్క మాటతో చెప్పారు.

సమాన గౌరవం: గాంధీజి నుంచి నేర్చుకోవాల్సిన మరో ముఖ్యమైన అంశం  అందరినీ గౌరవించడం. గాంధీజీ ఎప్పుడూ సమానత్వాన్ని నమ్మేవారు. దక్షిణాఫ్రికాలో, అతను పక్షపాతాన్ని ఎదుర్కొన్నారు. అందువల్ల అసమానతను ఎదురించారు. ఆర్థిక స్థితితో సంబంధం లేకుండా ప్రతి ఒక్కరూ గౌరవానికి అర్హులని ఆయన తెలియజేశారు.

అహింస: మహాత్మా గాంధీ అహింస బోధకులు. భారతదేశ స్వతంత్రం కోసం ఆయన చేసిన ఉద్యమాలన్నీ బహిష్కరణలు, శాసనోల్లంఘనలు, అహింసాయుత నిరసనలు మాత్రమే. గాంధీజీ నుంచి మనకు వ్యతిరేకంగా జరిగే ఏదైనా విషయంలో అహింసాత్మక విధానాన్ని అనుసరించడం నేర్చుకోవాలి.

నిజాయితీ: మహాత్మా గాంధీ నుంచి మనం నేర్చుకునే మరో పాఠం ఏమిటంటే ఎల్లప్పుడూ నిజాయితీ మార్గాన్ని అనుసరించడం. అతని ప్రకారం, సత్యం ద్వారా మాత్రమే మనం నైతిక, ఆధ్యాత్మిక వృద్ధిని సాధించగలం.

సరళత: గాంధీజీ మనకు బోధించే చివరి జీవిత పాఠం ఏమిటంటే మనం ఎల్లప్పుడూ సామాన్య జీవితాన్ని గడపాలి. మనం భౌతిక ఆనందాన్ని వెతకకూడదు. బదులుగా కొద్దిపాటి జీవనశైలికి విలువనివ్వాలి.

Initially, Gandhi’s campaigns sought to combat the second-class status Indians received at the hands of the British regime. Eventually, however, they turned their focus to bucking the British regime altogether, a goal that was attained in the years directly after World War II. The victory was marred by the fact that sectarian violence within India between Hindus and Muslims necessitated the creation of two independent states—India and Pakistan—as opposed to a single unified India.

Gandhi’s family practiced a kind of Vaishnavism , one of the major traditions within Hinduism , that was inflected through the morally rigorous tenets of Jainism —an Indian faith for which concepts like asceticism and nonviolence are important. Many of the beliefs that characterized Gandhi’s spiritual outlook later in life may have originated in his upbringing. However, his understanding of faith was constantly evolving as he encountered new belief systems. Leo Tolstoy ’s analysis of Christian theology, for example, came to bear heavily on Gandhi’s conception of spirituality, as did texts such as the Bible and the Quʾrān , and he first read the Bhagavadgita —a Hindu epic—in its English translation while living in Britain.

Within India, Gandhi’s philosophy lived on in the messages of reformers such as social activist Vinoba Bhave . Abroad, activists such as Martin Luther King, Jr. , borrowed heavily from Gandhi’s practice of nonviolence and civil disobedience to achieve their own social equality aims. Perhaps most impactful of all, the freedom that Gandhi’s movement won for India sounded a death knell for Britain’s other colonial enterprises in Asia and Africa. Independence movements swept through them like wildfire, with Gandhi’s influence bolstering existing movements and igniting new ones.

Gandhi’s father was a local government official working under the suzerainty of the British Raj, and his mother was a religious devotee who—like the rest of the family—practiced in the Vaishnavist tradition of Hinduism . Gandhi married his wife, Kasturba , when he was 13, and together they had five children. His family stayed in India while Gandhi went to London in 1888 to study law and to South Africa in 1893 to practice it. He brought them to South Africa in 1897, where Kasturba would assist him in his activism, which she continued to do after the family moved back to India in 1915.

As lauded a figure as Gandhi has become, his actions and beliefs didn’t escape the criticism of his contemporaries. Liberal politicians thought he was proposing too much change too quickly, while young radicals lambasted him for not proposing enough. Muslim leaders suspected him of lacking evenhandedness when dealing with Muslims and his own Hindu religious community, and Dalits (formerly called untouchables) thought him disingenuous in his apparent intention to abolish the caste system . He cut a controversial figure outside India as well, although for different reasons. The English—as India’s colonizers—harboured some resentment toward him, as he toppled one of the first dominoes in their global imperial regime. But the image of Gandhi that has lasted is one that foregrounds his dogged fight against the oppressive forces of racism and colonialism and his commitment to nonviolence.

Mahatma Gandhi (born October 2, 1869, Porbandar, India—died January 30, 1948, Delhi) was an Indian lawyer, politician, social activist, and writer who became the leader of the Indian Independence Movement against British rule . As such, he came to be considered the father of his country . Gandhi is internationally esteemed for his doctrine of nonviolent protest ( satyagraha ) to achieve political and social progress.

In the eyes of millions of his fellow Indians, Gandhi was the Mahatma (“Great Soul”). The unthinking adoration of the huge crowds that gathered to see him all along the route of his tours made them a severe ordeal; he could hardly work during the day or rest at night. “The woes of the Mahatmas,” he wrote, “are known only to the Mahatmas.” His fame spread worldwide during his lifetime and only increased after his death. The name Mahatma Gandhi is now one of the most universally recognized on earth.

Gandhi was the youngest child of his father’s fourth wife. His father—Karamchand Gandhi, who was the dewan (chief minister) of Porbandar , the capital of a small principality in western India (in what is now Gujarat state) under British suzerainty—did not have much in the way of a formal education. He was, however, an able administrator who knew how to steer his way between the capricious princes, their long-suffering subjects, and the headstrong British political officers in power.

Gandhi’s mother, Putlibai, was completely absorbed in religion , did not care much for finery or jewelry, divided her time between her home and the temple, fasted frequently, and wore herself out in days and nights of nursing whenever there was sickness in the family. Mohandas grew up in a home steeped in Vaishnavism —worship of the Hindu god Vishnu —with a strong tinge of Jainism , a morally rigorous Indian religion whose chief tenets are nonviolence and the belief that everything in the universe is eternal. Thus, he took for granted ahimsa (noninjury to all living beings), vegetarianism , fasting for self-purification, and mutual tolerance between adherents of various creeds and sects.

The educational facilities at Porbandar were rudimentary; in the primary school that Mohandas attended, the children wrote the alphabet in the dust with their fingers. Luckily for him, his father became dewan of Rajkot , another princely state. Though Mohandas occasionally won prizes and scholarships at the local schools, his record was on the whole mediocre . One of the terminal reports rated him as “good at English, fair in Arithmetic and weak in Geography; conduct very good, bad handwriting.” He was married at the age of 13 and thus lost a year at school. A diffident child, he shone neither in the classroom nor on the playing field. He loved to go out on long solitary walks when he was not nursing his by then ailing father (who died soon thereafter) or helping his mother with her household chores.

He had learned, in his words, “to carry out the orders of the elders, not to scan them.” With such extreme passivity, it is not surprising that he should have gone through a phase of adolescent rebellion, marked by secret atheism , petty thefts, furtive smoking, and—most shocking of all for a boy born in a Vaishnava family—meat eating. His adolescence was probably no stormier than that of most children of his age and class. What was extraordinary was the way his youthful transgressions ended.

“Never again” was his promise to himself after each escapade. And he kept his promise. Beneath an unprepossessing exterior, he concealed a burning passion for self-improvement that led him to take even the heroes of Hindu mythology, such as Prahlada and Harishcandra—legendary embodiments of truthfulness and sacrifice—as living models.

In 1887 Mohandas scraped through the matriculation examination of the University of Bombay (now University of Mumbai ) and joined Samaldas College in Bhavnagar (Bhaunagar). As he had to suddenly switch from his native language— Gujarati —to English, he found it rather difficult to follow the lectures.

Meanwhile, his family was debating his future. Left to himself, he would have liked to have been a doctor. But, besides the Vaishnava prejudice against vivisection , it was clear that, if he was to keep up the family tradition of holding high office in one of the states in Gujarat, he would have to qualify as a barrister . That meant a visit to England , and Mohandas, who was not too happy at Samaldas College, jumped at the proposal. His youthful imagination conceived England as “a land of philosophers and poets, the very centre of civilization.” But there were several hurdles to be crossed before the visit to England could be realized. His father had left the family little property; moreover, his mother was reluctant to expose her youngest child to unknown temptations and dangers in a distant land. But Mohandas was determined to visit England. One of his brothers raised the necessary money, and his mother’s doubts were allayed when he took a vow that, while away from home, he would not touch wine, women, or meat. Mohandas disregarded the last obstacle—the decree of the leaders of the Modh Bania subcaste ( Vaishya caste), to which the Gandhis belonged, who forbade his trip to England as a violation of the Hindu religion—and sailed in September 1888. Ten days after his arrival, he joined the Inner Temple , one of the four London law colleges ( The Temple ).

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or  Mahatma Gandhi was a renowned freedom activist and an authoritative or powerful political leader who played an essential role in India's struggle for Independence against British rule of India. He was also considered the father of the country. No doubt, he also improved the lives of India's poor people. His birthday is celebrated every year as Gandhi Jayanti. His ideology of truth and non-violence influenced many and was also adopted by Martin Luther and Nelson Mandela for their struggle movement.

Mahatma Gandhi Biography

In South Africa for about 20 years, Mahatma Gandhi protested against injustices and racial discrimination using the non-violent method of protests. His simplistic lifestyle won him, admirers, both in India and the outside world. He was popularly known as Bapu (Father).

Mahatma Gandhi: Early Life and Family Background

He was born on 2 October, 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. His father’s name was Karamchand Gandhi and his mother’s name was Putlibai. At the age of 13, Mahatma Gandhi was married to Kasturba which is an arranged marriage. They had four sons namely Harilal, Manilal, Ramdas and Devdas. She supported all the endeavors of her husband until her death in 1944.

His father was Dewan or Chief Minister of Porbandar, the capital of a small principality in Western British India (Now Gujarat State). Mahatma Gandhi was the son of his father's fourth wife Putlibai, who belonged to an affluent Vaishnava family. Let us tell you that in his earlier days, he was deeply influenced by the stories of Shravana and Harishchandra as they reflected the importance of truth.

Mahatma Gandhi: Education 

When Gandhi was 9 years old he went to a local school at Rajkot and studied the basics of arithmetic, history, geography, and languages. At the age of 11, he went to a high school in Rajkot. Because of his wedding, at least about one year, his studies were disturbed and later he joined and completed his schooling. He joined Samaldas college in Bhavnagar in 1888 at Gujarat. Later, one of his family friends Mavji Dave Joshi pursued further studies i.e. law in London. Gandhiji was not satisfied with his studies at Samaldas College and so he became excited by the London proposal and managed to convince his mother and wife that he will not touch non-veg, wine, or women.

Off to London

In the year 1888, Mahatma Gandhi left for London to study law. Thereafter 10 days after arrival, he joined the Inner Temple, one of the four London law colleges, and studied and practiced law. In London, he also joined a Vegetarian Society and was introduced to Bhagavad Gita by some of his vegetarian friends. Later, Bhagavad Gita set an impression and influenced his life.

Mahatma Gandhi: In South Africa

In May 1893 he went to South Africa to work as a lawyer. There he had a first-hand experience of racial discrimination when he was thrown out of the first-class apartment of the train despite holding the first-class ticket because it was reserved for white people only and no Indian or black was allowed to travel in the first class. This incident had a serious effect on him and he decided to protest against racial discrimination. He further observed that this type of incident was quite common against his fellow Indians who were derogatorily referred to as coolies.

On  22 May 1894  Gandhi established the  Natal Indian Congress (NIC)  and worked hard to improve the rights of Indians in South Africa. In a short period, Gandhi became a leader of the Indian community in South Africa.  Tirukkural ancient Indian literature, originally written in Tamil and later translated into various languages. Gandhiji was also influenced by this ancient book. He was influenced by the idea of Satyagraha which is a devotion to truth and in 1906 implemented a non-violent protest. He returned to India in 1915, after spending 21 years of his life in South Africa, and no doubt, there he fought for civil rights and at this time he was transformed into a new person.

In 1915 , Gandhiji returned to India permanently and joined the Indian National Congress with Gopal Krishna Gokhale as his mentor.

Gandhi's first major achievement was in 1918 when he led the Champaran and Kheda agitations of Bihar and Gujarat. He also led Non-Cooperation Movement, Civil Disobedience Movement, Swaraj, and Quit-India movement against the British government.

Mahatma Gandhi: Death

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was assassinated on  30 January 1948 by Nathuram Godse. Godse was a Hindu nationalist and a member of the Hindu Mahasabha. He accused Gandhi of favoring Pakistan and was opposed to the doctrine of non-violence.

Gandhi was a prolific writer. Some of his literary works are as follows:

• Hind Swaraj, published in Gujarati in 1909.
