Doctoral degree regulations and guidelines.
Before and during a PhD track, the PhD Candidate and their Supervisor or Supervisors are required to make sure that the Doctoral Degree Regulations are observed.
The PhD Regulations of Utrecht University include a number of legal stipulations as they have been codified in the Dutch Higher Education and Research Act (Dutch name: Wet op het hoger onderwijs en wetenschappelijk onderzoek , WHW), as well as a number of conditions that have been set by the Utrecht University Board for the Conferral of Doctoral Degrees. The PhD Regulations stipulate, among other things, who has access to the PhD Defence, how the Primary Supervisors and Secondary Supervisors are appointed, how the doctoral thesis is required to come about and how the Assessment Committee is to be assembled.
Associate Professors as Supervisors
As of 1 January 2018, some Associate Professors can also be appointed as Supervisors. Please read the conditions (docx) , which are based on the VSNU guidelines (pdf).
Minimal requirements of the quality assurance system
In order to safeguard the quality of the PhD programme, the Executive Board has set the minimal requirements of the quality assurance system (pdf). Every Graduate School has a cyclic quality-assurance system that enables the Board of Studies to monitor and continuously improve the quality of the PhD programme. Special arrangement for joint doctorates
Utrecht University offers a special arrangement for joint doctorates. It is possible to set up a joint doctorate in collaboration with one or more foreign universities. Such a joint doctorate requires permission from the Board for the Conferral of Doctoral Degrees, applied for well before the start of the PhD track. The arrangement for joint doctorates (pdf) stipulates how to request permission for a joint doctorate within Utrecht University and which requirements the joint doctorate has to meet.

PhD Regulations Leiden University
The PhD Regulations are established by the Doctorate Board. The regulations set out who is eligible to be a PhD candidate, what the tasks of the supervisor and co-supervisor are and which criteria the dissertation has to meet.
2023 PhD Regulations
The 2023 PhD Regulations became effective on 14 September 2023.
2021 PhD Regulations
The Leiden University PhD Regulations 2021 will then be withdrawn. As of 14 September 2023, the 2023 PhD Regulations of Leiden University will apply to all doctorates for which the manuscript has not yet been approved by the supervisor at that time. IAny exemptions are granted by the dean on behalf of the Doctoral Examination Board.
Overview of PhD Procedure
It is important that the dean and the Graduate School of the faculty where the PhD research takes place and the beadle of the University have all the information needed for the PhD procedure. A number of appendices to the PhD Regulations are therefore available that should be submitted at the points in time described in the Overview of PhD Procedure .

Prices high at the start of Ohio’s recreational marijuana sales

While recreational marijuana is now legal in Ohio, consumers have noticed that prices are higher at Ohio dispensaries compared to other states such as Michigan, WCPO reported .
Keshar Ghimire, PhD, associate professor of economics at UC Blue Ash
Keshar Ghimire , PhD, an associate professor of economics at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College, said it’s not surprising that prices in Ohio are higher than elsewhere.
“The flower is about five times more expensive in Ohio right now, and edibles are almost double what's available in Michigan,” he said.
Experts told WCPO that marijuana prices should decrease in Ohio in the future. They cited high demand at the beginning of legal recreational sales and a limited number of sellers at this time for the increased prices.
